1. Hi and welcome to ExTS. We are always "kind" here :) 1. - If the router is in the same room do you have an ethernet cable [ there are often blue or yellow ] to try connecting directly between the pc and the router ? 2. - From your pic the icon that you have clicked on is not the usual "Wireless" icon - this is the default icon for a wired connection. If you right click on this icon [ bottom right of screen ] and select "Trouble Shoot" then let the trouble shooter run. What does it suggest as being the problem? 3. Click on the Start button [ bottom left of screen ] type in ..... devmgmt.msc ......hit the "Enter" key Scroll down the Device Manager list and click the > next to "Network Adapters" Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs against any of the items listed? Is there anything listed that has Wifi or wireless in the name ?
2. Hi ragnar23, As you have posted in Win7 forum I am assuming that you have Win7 as your OS. Try booting up in Safe Mode. Shut down normally. Switch on and tap F8 constantly [ about once per second ] until you see the Advanced Startup options. Select "Safe Mode" from there. Let the machine boot up. The graphics will look odd due to minimal drivers. Do you get the same problem now? [ Re-booting will revert to normal mode ]
3. I hope your vision for the future comes to fruition Bob. We have, now, a small but loyal membership who check in regularly. Obviously we hope that the loyal membership grows. We have a small, loyal and very knowledgeable staff too who check in regularly and most posts for advice are answered within a day. Here is to a growing community :)
4. Hi Ned Sorry I should have remembered that you needed a minimum post total to use the PM system :( Yes I got your PM. I have replied via PM too. Glad that you found us :)
5. That's good to hear Bryn :)
6. Hi Bryn, Starbuck's suggestion sounds logical although the address changed some time back.
7. Hi Richard, Just to let you know [ if you receive this ] that we are experiencing a problem with the site. Starbuck cannot login at all and I seem to have intermittent access to the forums but cannot access the hidden parts of the site. We are not sure how long it is going to take to fix this - but Starbuck will get to you as soon as he is able to :)
8. Let me know if it works for you
9. No - it is a setting on your pc. It is easier to post a link - click here You can check TCP / IPv6 too.
10. I may have jumped the gun a little bj ..... If this is the case you can locate an Android App [ software designed for Google machines ] it may run on your machine. Take a look here - click here - It may be worth a couple of pounds to see if the OS maps work on your machine :) These OS maps cover a limited area - you have to buy further maps of different areas if you wish to expand
11. Hi bj, I have had a quick look - and it seems that Amazon use their own OS with the Fire 7 - similar to Android but with differences. See here - click here I think you may be limited to Amazon App Store.
12. Hi joddle and Merry Christmas. Home networks are not really my thing - so any help from me will be limited. As you are experiencing the same problem with both Wifi and cable try disabling your AV. [ just to check - enable it again afterwards ] Also check that you have "Obtain IP Address Automatically" checked in TCP / IPv4
13. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Jim :)
14. Nice to know that you have your drive back Bob :)
15. Cheers Pete :)
16. Hi Bob, I have attached the image you sent me : You have circled the DISK DRIVES. The DVD CD-ROM is not showing. Try this first: Open up Device Manager again. On the menu bar at the top click on View > Show Hidden Devices Does DVD CD-ROM show up now and if so are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
17. Hi Bob, Start > type in ..... devmgmt.msc ....... Enter Click the > next to DVD CD Rom Are there any exclamation marks or red Xs ? Are you still using Win7 ?
18. Cheers Ray. Happy Christmas to you and yours :)
19. Option 2 is not too difficult - just a case of uninstalling the drivers and re-booting. If you are happy to leave it as it is - no problem :)
20. I agree with you Jim. If you had another similar Flash Drive or an external hard drive [ not one that uses mains power ] this would confirm it. If you can manage with it as it is then I agree - leave well alone :)
21. Hi Ray, This relates to the Touch Screen software. If you can operate the screen by touch without any problem I can't see why you are getting the error message. There must be some problem. You have two choices. 1. Do as you suggest and just ignore the message [ annoying ] 2. Uninstall and re-install the drivers for the Touch Screen. This is not difficult. click here You need to scroll down to "Screen Does Not Respond to Touch" click on the + Look for "Reinstall the Touch Screen Driver in Device Manager" and click on the + Follow the instructions. Ask if insure.
22. Hi Ray I am assuming that you have a HP machine - is this right ? Does the touch screen actually work ?
23. The USB port utilises 4 wires. If you look inside the port itself you should see the 4 connections. Obviously you will not see the coloured wires. The outer 2 are the 5v connections and the centre two are the data connections. https://icdn.hu/_userfiles/Image/joker/usb/alapozo/usb-pins.png If you wish you could try taking a voltage reading from the faulty port. You would need to be very careful with the multimeter leads. The reading should be 5v within a close tolerance. If it reads 4v say then this is not within the acceptable limits.
24. Hi Jim Just to confirm - do the other USB ports at the front work OK ? Is the Flash drive OK in the other USB ports at the front? It sounds like a power problem with that particular port. The ports operate on 5v and different devices require different amounts of current. It may be that this particular port is struggling to supply the current needed by the Flash Drive.
25. It could be - yes. Do you have a similar module in another machine to try ? You could give a local tech a call and ask if he has a spare that you can try to confirm your suspicion.
