Ok. I have searched everywhere for this answer. Microsoft Security will alert me to this virus only when I use Internet Explorer, not Chrome or firefox. Microsft security essentials will clean the virus but when i continue to use Internet explorer it keeps returning and Microsoft secutiy essentials triggers to clean it again. I cant get rid of it. Norton, Mcafee, and malewherebytes all come up with clean scans. There are many manual removal instructions on line but all steps are not applicable to my machine. No sign in app data and so on. It is so strange that only when i use internet explorer that i have a problem. In IE even the ad pops up but never in other browsers. This renders my IE useless. I'm asking because it was fine till yesterday, but as soon as I switched my system on today, Real-time protection was turned off. After a while, even the Wireless connection adapter got disabled and I could not turn it back on. I restarted thrice and it is the same every-time. I'm worried, since my friend brought a suspicious looking pen drive yesterday, asking me to format it. I just formatted it without even opening it. I ran a diagnostic on my laptop and it showed some problems, so I tried to update windows. I got a message that windows couldn't update because the service wasn't available and a restart of the computer could fix the problem. That didn't work. I was having problems with the picture image during a Skype call. the image was divided into three bands and they were not correct. This caused me to download the latest update from Skype. Immediately after the update these popups appeared saying I had won X amount of dollars and to make some entry. I stopped immediately and never responded, ran MSE but no help. About a week ago MSE found a Trojan and recommended I remove it. I did that but I have no confidence now. I was running MSE, and Malware anti malware of which I had paid 24 dollars. I continue to get a bogus Alert from Alert Viewer in Windows Home Server 2011. This Alert says that "The following important services are not running: Windows Update". I continue to resolve the alert by doing what is suggested (restarting the Windows Update service via the services.msc). However, I continue to get this message even when I restart Windows update and I can see it running in the Services dialog. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? I have a lot of trouble with Windows Updates. Ran MS Fix It several times, and each time it says "Windows Update components must be repaired" and reports "fixed" . This apparently is wrong. If it has successfully fixed anything, why does it continue saying something needs to be repaired in subsequent runs? I'm running Windows XP SP3. View this thread

The update installs and configures fine. After I install this update my Windows Defender says that Real Time Protection is off. I can not turn it back on unless I uninstall update KB2781197. I have no other Virus protection besides Malwarebytes and Norton Power Eraser. Both only run when I tell them to. View this thread

I bought windows 7, 32bit by mistake. Can i upgrade to windows 7, 64 bit if i install on a new clean drive, and if so, where can i download the files to do this and what is involved? Or are these files already located somewhere on my windows 32bit DVD? I will be installing windows 7 on a brand new (never been used) hard drive so i am not concerned with losing any data. But since my computer will have 8 gig's of RAM i would really like to be able to utilize all of the RAM. With 3rd party software companies releasing more and more software that uses more RAM, it is best to have an OS that is up to the standards of the current offering's. Thank you in advance. when i click on this icon it goes to windows security center and it shows that my virus protection is off. "microsoft security essentials reports that it is turned off. etc.." . on the mse screen it shows real-time protection : on ;my virus and spyware definitions are up to date. i just finished a quick scan saying " no threats were detected on your pc during this scan. security essentials is monitoring your pc and helping to protect it." why do i have this red icon if mse is on?
