  7. I am running HP Pavilion p6740f Desktop with Windows 7, 64bit, Windows Home Premium. I have never had trouble with using Windows Update. But today I have attempted to install a Windows Update [actually two] and I am getting the same results...failed. I have done nothing that would account for this problem. I did repeat the attempt to download updates several times...failed. In the fail message it says ERROR 643. I also went online to see if anyone, in google, had this same problem. Several people did, but they don't have a solution. I need some help. Thanks, Joseph View this thread
  8. Obviously windows8 has an issue with shutting down the computers, my both desktop computers (both hp, one year old) and my Toshiba laptop ( 6 months old) had widows7 and never had a problem shutting down, after upgrading all of them to windows8, I am having problems, it does not happen everytime, rather every 2nd or 3rd time. Microsoft has to come up with an update for this issue, it seems that I am not the only one. any suggestions? Thanks View this thread

  19. i have done the automatic troubleshooting that followed the error, says it fixed the problem then when i go to check for updates again i get this same error. my reasoning for wanting to check for an update is because my wifi keeps dropping every 5-10 minutes on this brand new dell laptop, and it has been recommended that i check the windows update. i know its not my wifi connection because i have other laptops here that never drop signal. anyways, i just want to know if theres a way to get around this error! Windows Update error 0x8024401C. i have windows 8 if that matters View this thread
  20. Hi all. After Windows automatic update was unable to install KB2761465, I wound up installing it manually (successfully). I rebooted and expected automatic update to detect that it was now installed, but this wasn't the case. It still shows on the list of updates needing install (and it still fails to install when I let automatic update try again). Since KB2761465 is now installed, is there any way to remove it from the automatic update list? Thanks for any help. View this thread
  21. Hi, I keep having update available on my bar(bottom of screen) bugging me over 'n over, 'n can not install, and it slows me down, bad: Automatic Updates The following updates were not installed: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2742597) How can I get it installed or to make it stop from checking for it, as well as not displaying it on my monitor anywhere, eye sore. I do realize I have older maschine, 2001 XP, has worked fine, alsways updated, updated memory, and graphics card a long time ago, this is recent problem. Also, should I unistall the Mozilla Firefox, I am using Explorer, but do like to keep Firefox open for other email accounts. Thank you in advance, DH View this thread
  22. OS Name: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium System type: X86-based PC Version: 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002 ----------------------------- I am unable to install "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008 x86 (KB2736416)." I get the message: "error(s) found / code 643 / windows update encountered an unknown problem." This is what I have tried to fix the problem, per Microsoft: ----------------------------- Run the Microsoft Fixit from the link. http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/ When I click the download button I get something called "windowsupdate.diagcab." I don't know what that is or how to open it. ----------------------------- Fix MSI software update registration corruption issues I download "MicrosoftFixit.wu.RNP.135281810351121704.4.2.Run.exe" but when I try to run it I get the message "Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred. We're sorry, but an error occurred while downloading one or more components and the troubleshooter cannot be run." ----------------------------- Repair the .NET Framework Select Repair .NET Framework 4 Client Profile to its original state, and then click Next. I did this but it did not seem to make a difference. ----------------------------- Downloaded and installed System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) ----------------------------- I don't know what else to do. I tried Windows Live Chat only to find out it would cost me $99 to get help with this problem from Microsoft. Surely Microsoft can do better than that! Any help would be appreciated! Thank you. 25. I had a virus last week that disabled my firewall and MSE. I ran a malware anti virus and believe I removed the virus but after that my firewall icon in control panel was not available and the security center icon says that MSE is turned off. I uninstalled/reinstalled MSE and got the green icon in the lower rt of the screen but the virus and spyware update said Connection failed 80070424. I found a way to fix that and now from the green icon MSE says it is working and everything is up to date. I also found another place to get the firewall back on but if you go to the security center icon in the control panel it still says MSE is turned off like it does not see the program is running. How can I get one side to know what the other is doing? I believe MSE is running right and have received some auto updates again but control panel security center says no. Am I protected?
