Running W7 Home Trying to fix my younger brothers laptop CMD prompt keeps opening in the background forcing anything to be minimized, this only happened after he let the power die whist windows was updating on the turn off screen. To try resolve the issue ive been trying to run windows update ( both through the program and online), neither is working. The link to the program ( on the laptop) is a dead link, once clicked nothing happens. Also when i try and get it though control panel same fault. The program doesn't have its icon next to it and when clicked nothing happens. I've tried various other advised fixes and no joy, please advise. Rick. View this thread

Fehler: Code D0000034 Unbekannter Fehler bei Windows Update In der angebotenen Hilfe ist der Fehler nicht aufgeführt Mit Problembehandlung versucht: Dort kommt Meldung: Windows Update Komponenten reparieren : behoben Für das System habe ich Wartungsaufgaben ausgeführt ohne Ergebnis. Mit Systemwiederherstellung habe das System zurückgesetzt weil ich vermutete dass eine Installation schuld ist. Leider nicht Die Windowsgültigkeitsprüfung habe ich nach 2 Stunden abgebrochen, da es dort heißt diese kann einige Minuten dauern. Wie lang dauert diese? Windows Update KB2756918 has apparently downloaded and installed repeatedly over the past week, but the update available icon shows within seconds. Installing manually has the same result! Anything I can do? View this thread

So I am having trouble with the following updates:- KB2726535- KB2758857After trying several times with the Windows Updater, which failed, I tried to download the first one from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2726535. This also failed. It wouldn´t install the update. I tried to find a download for the second one, but couldn´t find it.After this, I tried to download the System Update Readiness on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821. It looked promising, but the installation stopped near the end and stayed there for over an hour. After trying to cancel it (waiting an hour for that), it didn´t respond anymore and it was forced quit. Trying to install SUR a second time (and any time after that) resulted in an 0x80240009 error. I tried to fix this by using the System File Checker, but that tool couldn´t find anything wrong with the system. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this. Hi y'all, I am a tad confused concerning backups, I just got my new HPp6320y/win7/upgraded mohterboard/2.7Gz cpu,64bit,8G-ram. HP suggests to immediately burn a recovery-re-boot disk,which I did. Then they strongly suggest to copy a system shadow restore disc using a external hardrive or external storage such as cd-rw discs, I don't quite understand if I can burn a system shadow using my existing internal disk drive or another form of storage such as USB drives provided they have enough capacity. So far so good, But when I first tried to burn a shadow/system using my existing built in internal disk drive, the only choice in the popup after clicking "burn backup of system" was my internal hardrvie. It did not respond to putting a disk in, so I aborted the back up until I could figure out if I was doing something wrong and fix it I realize my HP automatic back up restore points are done on a regular basis w/out me having to ask , once the partition space reserved for the various backups reached its full capacity, my system deletes the oldest ones to give room for new ones,correct? I also realize the purpose of having a system shadow is if your hardrive goes bad, you can restore your entire O.S & personal data to a new drive, so storing it in a partition of your currently working hardrive would not make sense if it goes bad, correct? So why, will my system not burn a shadow on a known R/W good disk freshly unwrapped? (I have 10 of these I bought still wrapped) Do I need to use a external remote disk player/burner? Also, I have a built-in factory removable pocket media drive that came out of my older HPa610n and it holds 160Gs, I have the proper connection and it shows up as a storage device when I turn on my new current HP. However, when I click backup a system shadow, it only shows my existing internal cd-drive as an option to where I am supposed to store my system shadow. Yet they claim I can use a USB device provided it can hold enough storage, I am truly baffled and feel a migraine coming on!!!! HELP!!! please....regards, boulonman View this thread

Every few keystrokes the focus changes to another open program or to the desktop (usually selects Recycle Bin). Something is running in the background that constantly does this. It is not the keystrokes that cause the problem as I can just watch it without touching screen or keyboard. Even when running apps, the focus changes from the field the cursor is in. This is sooo annoying. Also I cannot attach files to email messages. I have a gmail account and when I attach a file in the Mail app, all appears good till I try to send, app says I must remove the attachment before sending. I then go to Internet explorer app, open gmail and try to attach file, no errors but file never attaches to mail. I then try desktop->Internet explorer->gmail, when I try to attach file small window appears - Internet explorer has a problem and must close. This is a simple Word document no special formatting or protection. I have saved the .doc to a .docx format, checked all permissions etc. Same problem This is a new PC has Trend Micro Protection, all PC protection package comes from Sony with PC. Microsoft update is turned on and I installed updates today that came automatically. Focus problem seems worse than ever. Please HELP! View this thread

I just got this computer put back together 2 weeks ago. Did fresh install of windows 8, everything worked great. Today I attempted update, when computer restarted I get the back and forth blinking black screen. I can't seem to find a solution so far, any ideas? View this thread

For some reason, 3 updates failed to update in windows 7 so I downloaded Microsoft Fix it to see if would help. After I ran the fix, I noticed that all my update history has been deleted. Also, Windows Messenger stopped working so I upgraded to Skype and now I see all my contacts again. My question is, Did Microsoft Fix it mess up my laptop? If so how do I fix it? View this thread

I have recently noticed that a windows installer box keeps popping up with "preparing to install" and then disappearing suddenly every five minutes or so on my laptop. I am unsure whether this is linked to my laptop installing windows updates the other day - the power ran out just before all of the relevant updates were installed. I have been to my control panel and have tried to click on the icon "windows update" however it does not come up with anything. i got new HP Pavilion g6-2244sa with windows 8, yesterday pop up window with new update appears. i selected update and restart, it took a while to complete the update, and after it went to black screen. Should i force restart or should wait for a while. View this thread

BACKGROUND: Ever since I upgraded from a DSL wired modem to a wireless modem I have been unable to successfully run Windows update or create a Home network even though I bought a wireless –N- USB 2.0 adapter. My wireless modem signal strength is listed as “Excellent” but I only get “Limited Access” at best instead of being fully “Connected.” I believe that both the Windows update and my failure to get Connected stem from the same root cause. I believe in concept there is a straight forward, elegant, but rather simple solution to both problems, as I will discuss below. My wireless system Download and Upload speeds are about five times those of my DSL system. MY COMPUTER SYSTEM · OS: Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 32 bits operating system · Processor: Intel i7 CPU -950- @ 3.07GHz · RAM: 6GB - (3X2GB modules) · Hard drives: Two WD 1 TB SATA @ 6GB/S REFERENCES Acronyms: · BITS = Background Intelligent Transfer Service · COM = COM+ Event System Windows Update – Get help on this error gives: · "WindowsUpdate_80246008" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" Events as listed in the Event Viewer (Actual events from my computer): The first line in each event is: Event;--Date and Time;--Source;--Event ID;--Task Category. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.” DISCUSSION: I have been trying to track down the root cause of my computer problems for about a month since I changed over to a wireless modem system with about five times the speed capability compared to my old DSL wired modem system. I have checked with my ISP and my modem appears to be operating quite satisfactorily with four out of five bars signal strength. I have likewise checked with the wireless adapter manufacturer and also found it to be quite satisfactorily with a reported Signal at 100% from my wireless modem. Thus after numerous checks I believe my wireless modem and adapter are not the root cause of my current computer problems. Here are my known problems: · I cannot complete Windows Update: I get help messages: "WindowsUpdate_80246008" "WindowsUpdate_dt000". · I have no system sounds, audio sounds through my CD/DVD drive, or sounds through iTunes. · I cannot update my drivers. Actions taken: · I used the Windows Update error help –("WindowsUpdate_80246008" "WindowsUpdate_dt000") on the Microsoft Community to find answers. I tried resetting Windows Update per the Conclusions:[/b] I believed all the above Referenced items now lead to conclude the root cause of all my recent computer problems are due to the failure of COM to get up and fully running when called upon by BITS before BITS initiates shutdown. The Warning at 1/12/2013 2:23:32 AM occurs just before the Error at 1/12/2013 2:23:32 AM. I believe the time period between the two events is on the order of microseconds. How else do you explain the fact that the Error at 1/12/2013 2:23:32 AM concludes that BITS service “ depends on the the COM+ Event System service which failed to start because of the following errorThe operation completed successfully”? If the “ operation completed successfully” statement is true then there is no error! The only way both event messages can make total sense is as follows: BITS starts and calls on COM to start. COM does not get fully started before BITS initiates a shutdown. The “ bad return code…” warning is likely initiated because COM is called by BITS to shut down before COM can report to BITS that COM is fully up and running.. The only way the Error message “The operation completed successfully” makes sense is because there is an extremely small but measurable time duration between BITS initiating a shutdown call and BITS recording the non-error “error message”. This time duration is probably on the order of 5 to 50 microseconds. RECOMMENDED CORRECTIVE ACTION Several corrective actions to my computer problems are possible including making COM to startup faster when called upon by BITS. While taken this action might solve this problem for today’s computers, will this solution take care of tomorrow’s even higher speed computers? I believe the best solution is to anticipate higher speed future computers and try to design a long-term solution. Go to Services, select and right click on BITS. Select Properties and then the General tab. Notice that there are several “Startup type:” options, one being “Automatic (Delayed start)”. The addition of a “Shutdown type:” with one option being “Automatic (Delayed shutdown)”, and another “Manual” option to allow specific delays to be input. While I am specifically addressing the BITS Service, this same concept could be applied to other Services that likewise require dependency Services or groups. I believe adding some shutdown delay to BITS is the most robust and straightforward way to resolve the BITS premature shutdown issue. I do not have sufficient computer expertise to provide a completed solution by myself so I need help from others within Microsoft and the Microsoft community. I am nearly 100% sure that delaying BITS shutdown will resolve this specific problem. I look forward to hearing from other interested persons or organizations. View this thread

This update was successfully in stalled on my PC yet every time I try and shut down I get I receive a message that there are updates that need to be installed and it keeps updating the same file. My updates download and install. After installing I get the message that updates were successfully installed. At this point there is usually a box that says restart required, but there is none. Previously, after restarting the configureing message appeared and the updates were configured. I do a manual restart after installing but still do not get the message "Configureing Updates I just changed to Windows 7, so maybe that is not the way it happens now. I had to install a new hard drive and reinstall all the drivers that windows did not install. Having problems with windows update in win 8 pro and the above update wont install. So tried downloading the patch from MS and it still fails. Have run sfc /scannow - verified ok. my new hp windows 8 computer just installed all 26 updates. in the lower right corner as the installation was ongoing there appeared a message saying my computer would restart in 2 days. very odd. then, once all the updates were installed, it shut down and started an automatic restart. two hours later it is still trying to restart. i tried powering it off, won't let me do that. i tried ctrl, alt, delete to bring up the task manager and shut it down that way, no luck. now what? any suggestions?? I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 and am running a dual boot with Windows 7. Now that I have been using both systems I am having trouble installing updates on Windows 7. When I select shutdown on Windows 7 it goes through the normal process of installing the updates, but then when I boot up Windows 7 it doesn't seem to complete the configuration process. Any ideas?
