Hi. For various reasons I had to format and reinstall windows on my lenovo think W520 laptop. I have its activation key, but I don't have any sort of recovery disk. I have a retail windows 7 HP disk that I used for my desktop, but installing with that won't let me activate with the laptop's key. And naturally the key that came with the disk is in use. How do I find an install disk that will work with the key provided with the laptop? (As far as I can tell, lenovo's website's software all assumes you have something to recover; in my case the disk is formatted and AFAIK there's nothing to use to recover.) View the thread

Hi, I'm from Germany and I hope to find a solution to my problem with Windows 8 Pro x64 (I was forwarded to this forum from Manjunath Siddappa in the Windows 8 Community): When an application creates a file dialog, for example using a "save as..." command AND the path points to my desktop, the application freezes / crashes. I have tested this with pdfCreator (3rd party program), SnippingTool and the Windows Editor. However, Office 2013 does not crash under these circumstances. Reseting the default "save as..." path to a different location than to my desktop solves the problem. I'm using Windows 8 Pro with a domain user account on windows server 2012 (both from MSDNAA / Dreamspark). I noticed that this issue doesn't appear when I disable network file sharing, so I guess it's got something to do with the file dialog window loading the network items in the tree view on the left. Several Windows Updates are pending and when I try to do the update, they appear to download OK, but fail during the install. When the failure occurs, I get "80070005" and "Code 643" errors. Any Ideas? View this thread

I have tried to get updated drivers on line from kodak but can't. I have uninstalled and installed software and unpluged and pluged in the usb several times, in different ports. nothing seems to work. The camera works on a different computer. It also show a image in the kodak software if I lower the resolutions, and it shows and image in microsoft silverlight config. It won't work in skype or windows messenger. When I check device manager it shows up as usb video device#1,2,3 depending which usb port I plug it into, and not the name of the webcam. Like I've said it use to work, I even tried sys restore, but it only goes back to DEC. Anybody got any ideas View this thread

When writing reports in WORD, the misspelled word were underlined and it only spaced when i spaced?? now the computer spaces out words sometimes 2 and 3 spaces apart and no misspelled words are underlined.. How do I change this back? View the thread

I uninstalled java and updates to get rid of a couple of glitches. Now when I try to access java.com a window pops up with yellow triangle with ! in it and says object error. No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of it and cannot access java to reinstall. How can I fix this? I have Windows 7, use internet explorer, and google chrome browser. View the thread

I'm using Jarte instead of Wordpad and noticed that when I search for a word it also brings back that combination of letters in other words. This seems to be a Operating System thing (I'm using XP Pro now) and happens with other programs too. Is there any way of stopping this illogical Find "feature"? For example I search for exa but it brings up the word example because those letters are in it. What exa has in common with example I will never understand. If you're searching a long document it means its completely unworkable. This "feature" can result in 50 times as many useless hits as it would if it would just find what you want it to find. Hello, i like to use the group policy settings under “Computer ConfigurationPoliciesAdministrative TemplatesControl PanelPersonalization” to customize my lock screen but it does not work! I have a new Windows 8 Enterprise Installation with my custom image under "c:windowswebscreencompany.jpg". In the policy under “Force a specific default lock screen image” i made the entry for the custom image and i also made the setting "Prevent changing lock screen image". Both settings are in the local registry on the target client but there is still the default lock screen visible. I tried a diffend image location and also the policy without the setting "Prevent changing lock screen image" without success. I delete the folder under "C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsSystemDataS-1-5-18ReadOnly" without success. I can change the image manually! Any Idea? Guido View the full article

I have a .pst file created in a previous version of Outlook and am trying to import (or open) it from a CD backup. It's telling me I don't have permission to open it. The file was created on a defunct PC. Will removing all default properties help? Any ideas please. Thanks View the thread

whilst "tidying" my music collection I have managed to mix a load together! Duplicates are labeled (1), (2), etc... When doing a search in D:Music for "(1)" and de selecting partial match in search options it still comes up with results with just the character 1 in the file name... although it does not appear to "find" all files with 1 (just a few) plus some folders with 1. and ranks 1 and (1) the same so that even ordering by search ranking and/or grouping makes no change as all search result files and folders are mixed together... over 15000 results ... it even includes (2) results in the mix, with no discerning order... but without the (2) or any other part being highlighted! I have Windows XP SP3 with all updates installed on my laptop. Recently when I tried to update my Bluetooth Software (Broadcom) it failed in the installation stage (Completed Detection, Validation and Download). I then thought about a clean installation and using Add or Remove Programs I pressed uninstall on WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software. While uninstalling it tells me to turn off or remove the Bluetooth device. So my question is how can I remove or turn off an inbuilt Bluetooth device??
