Today I removed MacAfee software from my computer and installed Microsoft Essentials in its place. Now I find Windows Defender is turned off and I cannot turn it back on. I have telephoned your Support centre and they have e-mailed me the procedure but this failed at the first hurdle as I was told to "uninstall the Windows Defender program" and this is not on the list. Trying to set up a new Windows 8 Pro PC to be used as Windows Azure "workhorse", managing our services. Downloading WebMatrix from Azure, losing my nerves as depending on the time of the day the DL speed varies between 5 KBps and 20 KBps. I have now interrupted the download and installation process a few times because the policy is we do not leave computers on working unsupervised when going home, and I have no interest in spending my night waiting the download to finish. This PC has its own dedicated 50 down 20 up line, all other services working fast as they should. It is only this WebMatrix installation that has decided to spoil my week. Any ideas? Out of the blue, I suddenly received a pop up screen that asks me to "Activate Windows Now". If I hit continue, another window pops up saying that "The Windows Vista Home Premium Key You Typed is Invalid" (I have not typed in any such premium key). I have had this computer since 2/25/09, buying it from Dell, with the operating system already installed on it. I have done all of the Windows Upgrades to it that were available and have not made any recent changes such as downloading or installing new programs. I am not sure at all why this error message suddenly popped up (I have rebooted the computer to ensure it did not clear on its own). As I purchased this from Dell, with the software loaded, I do not have an original Windows Vista CD/DVD to get any valid Product Code from. I do have a DVD from Dell entitled "reinstallation dvd windows vista home premium 64bit sp1" that does have a bar code on it. I am reluctant to run this "reinstallation dvd" not knowing what other problems might then pop up unless there seems to be no other alternative. Anyone have any ideas? View this thread

I have a system that already has Windows 7 installed. I added a second hard drive just for Windows 8. I installed Windows 8 on the second drive with no problems. I do not get the option to dual boot though. I have to chose the drive that I want to boot from within the bios boot option. I press F8 and select the drive. This is a ASUS Rampage iv Extreme board with UEFI. I want to be presented with a Windows 8 boot option without having to press F8 and selecting the drive to boot from. What am I missing? Thanks! I have a Canon Pixma MX882 printer, with two desktop PC's and one laptop, (all Windows 7) with a FIOS Actiontec router. The 2 PC's are connected by ethernet directly to the router, while the laptop uses a wifi connection. I need to print from all three computers. Until recently, the printer has had a direct USB connection to one PC, and I print from the other PC and laptop by sharing the first PC's USB printer connection. Recently I got tired of having to wake up the first PC to print through it, so I abandoned the USB connection, and using the Canon setup utility on the original disk, reconfigured each desktop so that the printer and two PC's all have a direct wired connection to the router. This works fine. My problem is getting the laptop to print through the network. I have full working wifi connection from laptop to network, but I don't know how to get the laptop to recognize /connect to the printer. I've tried using the Windows 'add printer' on the 'devices and printer' window, but it doesn't fully connect. The printer appears to install the drivers, but the Canon printer icon ends up greyed out in the 'devices and printer" window. When I try to print a test page to it, nothing happens. Any suggestions? Should I use the Canon setup disk to connect the laptop, and if so, which LAN choice do I make during the installation: wired? Wifi? I've tried the whole alternate route of manually putting in the printer IP address, etc etc, but no go. Suggestions? Also, if this is posted in the wrong forum topic, please advise. Thanks! I have several databases developed in Access 2002/2003 which are configured for User Level Security. The Databases work 100% with Access 2010. I have downloaded Office 2013 and installed Access 2013. I successfully opened a tiny database that I use just to join the workgroup file. I then closed Access and tried to open the same file and now I get the Error 'Cannot open a database with a previous version of your application.' I get the same message with any database I try to open. I then tried to create a new blank database (accdb) and got exactly the same message but with a further message following it: 'A problem occurred while MS Access was communicating with the ole server or activeX control' Then... 'Close the OLE Server and restart it outside of the Microsoft Access Database' Now its not possible to do anything with the database. This is the same on Windows 7/8. Help on this would be greatly appreciated and sorry my text is so long. View this thread

My cat likes to walk on my laptop keyboard as much as I try to keep him off of it. He walked on it today and now my screen is upside down and I am I don't know how to correct it. This just so happens to be my work laptop and I have lots of work to do. Can someone help me. Microsoft licensing has confused me today so apologies if this is a really stupid question... We are looking to upgrade a number of PCs from Windows 7 Home to Windows 7 Professional. A colleague stumbled across this part code FQC-02156, listed as "Microsoft Windows Professional - Upgrade & software assurance - 1 PC - UTD, annual fee - MOLP: Open Value Subscription" at £24.07 Would this licence fulfill our requirements? Also, I understand this is an Open Value Subscription so the charge is £24.07 per year but could someone else explain any other catches/terms of this license? I have a HP Data Vault X5110 that stores largely static files, mainly media. The drives seem to be constantly working despite no new files etc. I have turned off indexing, thinking that might be the cause but the drives seem to be constantly working. Can anyone tell me how to turnoff whatever processes are running constantly. I don't use backup as we run Linux desktop/laptops. I use this machine as a simple file server for my media centres. Good day all, When we setup Outlook 2013 with cached mode running Exchange 2010, we create a meeting request in the calendar and it then displays the Organizer name as legacyexchangedn. If we switch off cached mode, use online mode, it then displays normal like it should, shows the organizer name. Is this a compatibility issue with Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2013 client? The updater gives me the error code of C80001FE. I have tried everything in this thread: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997 Some of these removed the error code and resulted in the updater just stopping while checking for updates (going back to the screen saying "click here to check for updates") and the last thing I tried resulted in the return of the error code.
