Hi I want to install Lync 2013 but have trouble because setup seems to start another instance that does the actual job. Hence I always get a return code while the installation is still running. I tried wshshell.Run(" setup.exe /adminfile custom.MSP", 0, true) and start /wait setup.exe /adminfile custom.MSP That way it’s impossible to determine if the setup was successful. Any ideas? Thanks Alex View this thread

Ok Running a v6v4tunnel on a Windows 8 Pro Machine via Tunnelbroker.net I can get the tunnel up and running and advertised on the Network ok and all seems ok until I reboot the W8 box After reboot the W8 box still is able to access IPv6 via the tunnel and still advertises itself to the network however Other devices are no longer to access external IPv6 sites Setting up Wireshark on the W8 machine I pinged google from my laptop, the trace shows the ping going out to google and also the reply coming back, however the replies are not forwarded back to the laptop. I can ping the laptop both via link local and the /64 address from the W8 machine. It seems that the replies just aren't being forwarded back correctly from the net. So far the only solution I have found is to delete and renew the tunnel after a reset but this is not really an ideal solution. Moving the tunnel endpoint to the laptop running W7 everything works as expected after a reboot, so definitely seems to be a W8 quirk. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My scenario is this: I want to have the Office 365 click to run desktop product (2013 office products) rolled out to all my computers in the network, lets say I have 25 for example. I understand I can use the click to run deployment tool using the /download and the /configure switches with an appropriate xml file to download and install office 365 pro plus click to run on a machine. So, lets say I do this for 25 computers (start up script or something). questions: 1. the administrative account (me or another admin in our AD) is the installing user, this user would also have to have a valid subscription to office 365 as I understand it. when a user logs into windows and opens Office products, who has activated that product - the user or the administrator who installed it? I would assume the latter 2. in our environment of 25 computers, from what I have read and understood about how activation and licensing works, it is not possible for a user to activate O365 on more than 5 devices at a time, but I need to install this on 25 machines, none of our users are local administrators which is why we will go for the E3 plan to get the download and install through our local network, the installing account will be 1 admin account, so how does this work out when that admin account has installed on a 6th and more machine? 3. our environment is a fairly hot-desking environment, and one which requires access to the office products offline (another reason we will go for the E3 plan so we can install the desktop click to run for offline use). sometimes a single user may need to borrow 5 or more of our laptops to take offsite (training company), what happens when multiple users are logging onto a single machine - again, im under the impression the product will be fine provided the installing user (the admin) has an active subscription with O365. my biggest area of concern I suppose is what is going to happen when we roll this out to more than 5 computers, is the administrator account for the office 365 subscription a special account which waives this 5 installation limit? if not, then how do the bigger business roll this out to many more machines, because 25 is really not large at all, and 5 devices is pathetic IF its restricted to that for the admin installing account... my issue is also important to note that none of our users are local admins, they do not have the rights to install anything on their machine so this has to be automated through our local network, I also cant make any one particular user a local admin of any one particular laptop due to the hot-desking scenario, if I made everyone a local admin I may as well just throw away security all together and put the entire company's users into the domain admins group - this is not a solution by the way. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg982959.aspx many thanks Steve View this thread

Have checked with both and setting are correct, with no success with changing port setting, etc. Individual Domain account (smtpout.securesever.net) now functions after being advised to change SMTP to port 80, but did not help with Comcast or Lisco. Could this be an issue with the forced migration to MS Outlook?? If so, I know a great number of people are going to be "pis_ed" and likely be "migrating" to Andriod! View this thread

windows 8 Windows 8 start screen cluttered
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
In our existing Windows 7 environment, we use Citrix XenApp published applications integrated with our start menu under the XenApp folder. However, my Windows 8 start menu is automatically filled with every published application automatically when I logon. See attached screenshot. I'm in IT so I have access to lots of apps but this would be unworkable for normal users as well. Whilst I can tag them all and remove them, they get added when you logon on again. I assume this is because of the way Citrix Receiver populates the local start menu and my guess is the following is happening. Citrix receiver starts in the background and deletes all of it's shortcuts in the start menu. This is confirmed as when you first logon, the Windows 8 start screen doesn't contain any published apps and they pop up a short while later Citrix Receiver then talks to the XenApp system to retrieve the current list of published apps Citrix Receiver re-creates the shortcuts in my start menu structure Windows 8 spots these new shortcuts and re-adds them to the start screen even though I'd removed them before - as far as it's concerned, they are new shortcuts I'm looking at ways of getting around this and whilst I've also posted on the Citrix forums, I thought I'd ask here as there might be some control that Windows 8 could do without requiring a modification to Citrix Receiver. Configure Windows 8 to not automatically add shortcuts from my own personal start menu to the start screen. Anyone know whether this is possible? Failing just restricting to my own personal start menu, turn off automatically adding any icons to the start menu. Once again, is this possible? Maybe there is some group policy setting to control the above? What is this feature of automatically adding tiles called? Would help me in searching for a solution Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers, Rob. View the full article -

Hi all I have a MacBook Pro running OSX as my primary OS with Windows 8 Pro installed as a VM, However I now want to delete the VM and Install my copy of Windows 8 Pro on a partition to have a dual boot option. Poor performance of the VM is the primary reason for wanting to change to dual boot, so my question is... can I still use my activation key for Windows 8 Pro when I delete the VM and install to a new partition? N.B this would all be happening on the one computer. Kind regards Gary View the full article

I am trying to move all my stuff to a different computer using the badly mis-named "easy" transfer - so far very step has been excruciating. I'm at what I thought was the last step - loading the data from an external hard drive into the destination computer. The drives on the destination machine had been cleared by my son, so it is "virgin". But at this last stage I get to a prompt in Easy Transfer that requires me to create new user names (or to re-use the previous ones) for the two accounts we had previously. But whatever I put in, including the old names, it just says "error creating user": the only account name it will accept is my son's old name, and I can only use this once. But without giving names to both the old users it won't let me move on. There is absolutely no help available in Easy Transfer and hence no clue whatever as to what actually is wrong or how I can correct it. HELP! View this thread

In another forum someone asked what people felt about Windows 8. This is what I had to say: Ok, well, to the OP I will offer my comments & promise to not be overly techy. Many folks who have spent a bit of time @ this forum, already, know my feelings but, that's ok... I have been using Windows 8 for about a year. I beta tested it for Microsoft in a dual-boot with Windows 7. I then migrated to the GA & said "bye-bye" to 7. I knew quite a bit of it/about it prior to beginning to, actually, work on or with it. It didn't come as a shock to me, much of it had me keenly interested and I had no prolonged agony learning it, that part took very little time or effort. Yes, we have turned a corner on the computing road. It has been a very speedy journey & it's not slowing down as the landscape changes & evolves. Demands, usage, work-force and devices & more contribute to things like Windows 8. Yes things are becoming more & more 'mobility driven'.... nothing bad about that. So, yes, we now have an OS that is happy across multiple & varied devices. One that is happy mobile or not and either Touch or not. But, one where the 'Look & Feel' is consistent and where everything syncs (or can be shared) easily and well between both devices and Users. An OS with access that a person can take with them from device to device and have the same experience available. Windows 8 shines in several areas. Security, stability, resource management and usage methodology, speed, connectivity (& collaboration), Feature-set, ease of use, uncluttered, not only cosmetically but, technically, as well. The performance of Windows 8 is blatant, striking & impressive. It's ease of installation & its 'intelligence' in that area is a real delight. That fact the so much is embedded and available & on, by default... Less demanding on End Users. As for the UI, I won't expend many words on that cus it's so trivial or mundane. Start can be used or not used, can have a slew of Tiles or just one. Store APPs are all 100% optional, too. One can stay 100% of the time on Desktop, anyway, so all becomes a moot or, @ least, very subjective, customizable thing. But, it (the UI) is NOT a problem, slows nothing, makes nothing awkward or arduous. Things are there when & if YOU want /need them & out of your way the rest of the time. Anyway, it's cool what Windows 8 is, what it has in it, what it can do & how well it does what's asked of it. It is smooth, snappy and slick. Both hardware & software compatibility w/ it are very good. Win8 is good, the best Windows OS to date and an important stepping stone to future computing. I should include that the design goals achieved that focus on & cater to Enterprise are terrific & likable by that environment. The fact that Enterprise can easily create & build APPs useful to their particular 'house' & workers has definite appeal for business. Cheers, Drew Drew MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres.
