I have a USB 3.0 external drive an want to connect it with 'X' as drive letter. I know how to assign a static drive letter to a USB Drive by The Computer Management and Disk Management but the drive loses the assigned letter of 'X' and gets the first unassigned letter randomly, after reboot or after reconnecting the drive. I can also tell that the same drive keeps its letter under Windows 7 and a USB 2.0 pendrive keeps its letter under Windows 8. In other Words, it seems to be Windows 8 with USB 3.0 that results in lost of assigned drive letter. Does anyone have an idea of ​​what it may be due to, please? Senki Alfonz View the full article

Recently Purchased a laptop with windows 8 on it. I wanted to Install the RSAT for Windows 8 tools but when I try it tells me the version of windows i am using is not supported. I am running x64 but I have tried downloading the x86 and still no luck. Windows update says there are no more updates available. CD/DVD tray sometimes doesn't want to open. When I push the button, tray slides out just a bit and then closes again. Little light also flashes a time or two. This happens both when I use the button on the tower and when I try to open the tray using the mouse command. Drives appears to work fine when I do get the tray open. Any ideas? Did the live update, etc., set to updrade - during the last but one stage win7 locked and when the pc was reset (powered off at mains) the only way possible and rebooted win7 reset itself to the original (corrupted) condition - so back to square 1. Hello, am hoping that perhaps someone can help me...on shutdown my computer automatically installed Windows updates. Since then, after my computer has been on for a few minutes a blue screen appears with an error Page Fault in Non-Paged Area. I rebooted my computer, but the same thing happened again. Through googling I was able to find out how to system reset my computer to a previous point in time (two weeks ago). My computer worked fine, however, when I shut it down in then automatically updated and of course the same blue screen then started appearing. So I have now reset my computer to two weeks ago again and also changed the settings so that Windows "checks for updates but lets me choose whether to download and install them"...and I am hoping that this will fix my problem for now. I can see that currently five updates are available: - ATI technologies Inc. Display - Radeio HD 6490M - Synaptics - Input - Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad - Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2574819) - Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2592687) - Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2709981) I am not sure which of these updates may be causing the problem and I'm assuming that never updating my computer ever again is an option as at some point there will be critical updates which I need? When i bought my laptop new, I did not get the operating system discs with it. Now I have had to change my hard drive my laptop requires these discs for windows vista basic, before I can get it up and running, is there somewhere I can get these or a download please? thankyou View this thread

Can you tell me... why does my Windows 8 do everything I want or need, do it well, quickly and easily? Why does it accept every piece of software or hardware I throw @ it? Does anyone know why my Windows 8 is so stable, smooth, fast and problem free? Thanks to Microsoft, I am being tied down and forced to use this strange new OS.
