Well, it's a mystery to me! My box has 32GB of RAM and I am using about 16GB for Hyper-V Guests. The top row of Task Manager Process tab shows 48% Memory. That's seems right but when I arrange the memory usage column (below the title) in decreasing order I find the largest memory usage shown is 62.8MB. Everything else is smaller. I doubt the numbers in that column add up to 16GB. Why isn't Task Manager reporting accurately or maybe the question is: what is Task Manager reporting on? TIA, edm2 P.S. Little used GERICOM Laptop computer (circa 2004) had been sickly for a while, couldn't get it start up successfully, kept on going into some sort of repetitive loop. Managed to install 'System Mechanic' and get laptop up and running after some 'toing frowing'. Decided to do a Defrag which seemed to going OK, took about 1 hour to get to 50% of defrag left it running overnight, in the morning screen filled with print and the above two lines!!?? Hello, I'd like help diagnosing the root cause of a reoccurring BSOD on a new Windows 7 install. I've browsed through the forums and found similar issues posted, which pointed to either a hardware issue (likely HDD), low level chip set drivers, or the BIOS. Before I risk doing more damage by updating drivers and flashing the BIOS, I'm hoping someone can help me identify the exact cause of this issue. A little information about the hardware: the computer is an HP a6000 series desktop upgraded to 4 Gb of memory and a Pentium E5700 Dual-Core. I installed Windows 7 on a new WD 1 TB HDD. I'm aware that there is a hotfix regarding Windows 7 installed on 1 TB drivers or larger exhibiting the exact symptoms I'm experiencing, but it was released a while ago and I figured that the fix should have already been included in the latest service pack that I installed. Currently, I'm having problem with my IE10, in the Tile, I can display ajax content, such as Facebook Chat and also Technet Post Reply. But when I'm using desktop mode, whenever I check my FB messages then it shows "can't fetch data from server", the like action is disappear right away when I clicked it, and also I can't reply in Technet forum. About 3 weeks ago, all e-mails from a long-standing contact (...co.uk) are being returned to that person and are marked "blocked for abuse." That person can send me messages using an alternative address, and that person receives all my messages. The contact's address in not in my blocked contacts' list. It is emply. And there are no top-level (i.e. country level) receipenats blocked. I added the contact's address to my preferred contacts' list. Nothing seems to help. I ran windows update yesterday and installed the advised updates, on restarting my laptop today the error message "couldn't load main class" appeared in a box and I couldnt do anything until I had closed this box, after that on loading firefox it displayed a not responding message, then a bar opened stating that adobe plug-in didnt start properly so I clicked to re-load page, I then restarted my laptop to see if this had resolved the issue but the same error message appeared and firefox responded in the same way, has anyone any idea how I can resolve this issue? I run comodo anti-virus and malware software and my OS is windows vista 32. I also downloaded an update for adobe flash yesterday but the problem didnt occur until after I had done the windows updates. Thank you View this thread

I was following some instructions from a Microsoft help page on changing some settings for a Microsoft exchange email system. I needed to use Windows powershell and was following the instructions as I have never used it before and the first thing it sayd to do is uninstall then re-install with latest version. I missed the bit that says you do not need to do it with a Windows 7 machine so I did the uninstall and then when I went to reinstall I found there is no option for a windows 7 machine as it is already pre loaded. I've got Windows 8 64-bit, and it's been running fine for about 2 months now. Just today, it's started to crash the desktop every 6 seconds. The screen goes purple (which I'm pretty sure is just my chosen background colour), the outline of the taskbar remains, but all the icons disappear, and then everything returns, only to crash again in another 6 seconds. I've watched the task manager, and under "background processes", an icon called "Windows Problem Reporting" appears for about a second, and then goes away. I've looked up some other people's questions about this, and most people seem to recommend checking for updates, or installing new graphics drivers, but this is not an option for me. Whenever the desktop crashes, it shuts down control panel as well. This means I can't start my computer in safe mode, I can't check for updates, I can't uninstall/update drivers, I basically can't make any changes to my computer! Even as I'm writing this message, the cursor keeps disappearing from the test box whenever the desktop crashes, and I have to click on the screen every 6 seconds. ARGH! View the full article

I'm building a new server, and when I add any of my many 3Tb drives, they show up at ~750 Gb. Researching the web, it seems that I'd need Intel's RTS update..but I don't think this applies. I've set up BIOS to use IDE instead of RAID or AHCI... I don't have any data, so I have to problem resetting it to one or the others, but MY undestanding what that I don't need RAID with Windows Home server...I thought WHS achieved the same goal as RAID... The main GOAL here is, I'm running WHS 2003 and I want to use 3Tb hard drives...I have these in my other server, but can't figure out why they're not working in my current config. Anyone who can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
