I had a user account under "Pierre" (I am the lone administrator/user) under which there were many folders (trips, pictures, music,...). This folder/account is not longer accessible nor visible under Explorer. Yet when I do a search under "C" it is still there under c/Users and I can copy files and folders from there to store them into a different folder where I do have access for the future. How can I make this account immediately accessible again under Explorer with all the data that was in there without using this humongus bypass/copy procedure? Dozen of thanks! Pierre View the thread

My Asus F3F Laptop Hard disk is almost full even after compressing, I bought a WD 500gb Advanced format drive and a drive enclosure to house it whilst I try to clone the existing drive to it. I have loaded EasUs Todo backup (Free) to help with the cloning. When connecting the new drive it is showing up in Device Manager under Disk Drives and Computer Management under storage but it is NOT showing up under My Computer for as a disk available in the Back up Software so I am unable to make the clone. Can anyone help? (The reason for his process is because of the fact the op software is that which came with the laptop) View this thread

Hi, I observed following during the validation of the Office telemetry setup (1) Windows XP and Office 2003 data available in the telemetry dashboard contains only inventory of files used, registered add-ins in the machine and system information. It did not report the potential issues that could cause while upgrading it to Office 2013 or information’s like VBA, data connections, OLE, ActiveX controls in the file. So is it an issue in the setup or is it a behavior of Telemetry that it will not report above things for previous versions of Office 2003, 2007 & 2010. (2) It could not analyze and report the MS Access DB files. Why is it removed? OMPM does the analysis of MS access files to a certain extent. (3) Why OMPM issues like linked documents, charts, embedded documents are not captured by the telemetry? (4) This tool works based on MRU list so the duration of assessment would be longer. Because MRU limits in Office 2003, 2007, 2010 are 9, 50 and 50 respectively. What are the ways to bring more files in MRU list without asking the user to open the file? View this thread

Hi, We have a silverlight application which saves docx, pdf,xls files in the database using the SQL Server 2008 File Stream objects and some times as blob data. We have a office web apps 2013 server installed in a machine. Can we open the docx, xls, pdf files using Office Web apps 2013 if these files are programatically dumped to a shared folder after converting the blob/binary data to a word, excel, pdf files. Please advice. If this is not possible, please guide which is the best method for such a scenario. Thanks in advance Veena R Veena Raju View this thread

A pinned shortcut on my taskbar has stopped functioning. When I click on it says, "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or , if one is already installed, create and association in the Default Programs control panel." The game that is linked to the shortcut is still in the same directory that the error top menu bar points to, and I have since create another shortcut which points to the same location and it is working just fine. The problem have is I cannot right click on the icon to unpin it from my task bar. Is there a way I can reset my taskbar? Following the method that I have found on this forum to delete IconCache.db file in the Appdata folder and relaunch explorer. However that yielded no results. Any ideas? View the full article

Hi, I am having a Windows XP SP 3 machine with Office 2003. I installed office telemetry agent in it and configured the random delay parameter to 0 in registry. But the machine could not upload the data to the shared folder until I log off and log on. Why XP machine is not able to send the data to the shared folder in regular intervals? But windows 7 machine was able to upload the data in regular intervals. View this thread

windows xp Windows Genuine Validation???
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
When I select 'Progams,' 'Accessories,' and 'Activate Windows,' the system tells me windows is activated. However, Microsoft Security Essentials continues to display that Windows (XP Pro) is not validated and that I have 30 days to validate it. I keep seeing this message (4-5 times a week) even after repetedly updating or scanning with MSE. My security system is set to receive Automatic Updates, but I have received none in over two weeks. I am also unable to download updates from Adobe PDF, Flash, the latest version of LibreOffice -which keeps alerting me to the update, but then won't download it- and my Outlook contacts (formely Hotmail) will not display. Any help here? View this thread -

STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203,0x89FD3CA0,0xC0000102,0x00000000)I have a Dell Vostro 420 running Win XP Pro, fully updated as of last week. This morning while working on a spreadsheet in Excel two small windows popped up. The top window indicated a problem writing a file that, by name, appeared possibly to be related to my antivirus software, AVG 2013 Free. The only option in the window was [ok] but I was unable to select it either with the mouse (frozen) or by keyboard. As such, I was unable to read the second window behind it. Using [ALT] [TAB] I was able to reach Excel but my attempt at saving the file was unsuccessful. Shortly there after the entire machine locked up preventing even a warm restart. I am now unable to reboot in any mode, including safe mode, etc. and receive the following error:STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203,0x89FD3CA0,0xC0000102,0x00000000)The machine itself checks out ok. I have run the diagnostics at the bios level. I also have an older drive from the same machine that when installed, boots fine. I have not made any recent changes other than installing a batch of Windows updates last week. The machine has been running 24/7 since then, without issue. As I am a security minded user, running antivirus (AVG 2013 Free and McAfee Security Scan Plus) and sitting behind a hardware firewall, I am hoping that it is just a disk error and not a virus. At minimum I have multiple Outlook accounts (Office 2007 / no Exchange Server) that I need to recover. At best I would like to recover the entire disk.I have followed the instructions found on this site for recovering from an 0x24 blue screen but have come up short. I am the original owner of this computer and would have any disks it came with, however, the item closest at hand is an earlier Windows XP Pro Upgrade disk from March 2004. (part number X10-52219). Booting from this disk I am unable to reach the Windows recovery console. I have tried selecting 'r' during boot up as directed here: Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console for advanced users (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058)Nothing happens.During the boot, I am offered the option of an automated recovery program by selecting [F2] but it then instructs me to place a specific disk into the floppy drive. I couldn't do that even if I had the disk (no drive). If I allow it to run through without selecting anything, I get an 0x0000007b error instead. Does the recovery 'r' option not work from an upgrade disk, do I just need to find a later version (service pack 3) Win XP install disk? Perhaps it's an issue with the SATA drives? Is there any other way to access the recovery console? I have found a number of links to JoseIbarra's iso file but it appears it will not work with my SATA drives.Thank you for your assistance. I just bought this Dell computer with Windows 8 and Photo Gallery loaded. I loaded my photos and all was well the first 2 weeks. Now, if I try to open a photo and click on edit...the app freezes. If I go the other way around and open Photo Gallery first, it shows it "loading" but it never completes..it's like a hung app. I can't find any way to fix this, no updates to the software that I could find. And yes, I have done the obvious...shut down and reopened. Several times. View the full article

IE is set as the default browser, it has all its defaults, but when I do Win key + Q and type internet Internet Explorer is not found. I went to Internet OptionsPrograms in IE on the desktop and set it to open up everything in Metro IE. It opens, but I still don't have the option of pining it to the Start Screen. If I pin a site to Start, it doesn't appear (does if using IE on the desktop). Also when IE Metro is open it doesn't show up (it's blacked out) if I browse the open applications by hovering to the left corner of the screen. It shows up just fine if I Alt + Tab. Please let me know how can I get IE back, the problem persists on all of our domain machines (corporate image) that was syspreped, deployed with MDT/WDS with these features removed: dism /online /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackageName:microsoft.microsoftskydrive_16.4.4204.712_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe dism /online /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackageName:microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_16.4.4206.722_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe dism /online /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackageName:Microsoft.XboxLIVEGames_1.0.927.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbw and also IE on the desktop was copied to C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStartMenuPrograms, this has now been removed for the Default and all other user accounts. IE Metro clearly is on all machines, I just can't add it to the Start Screen...a problem since we're starting to get tablets. sfc /scannow completes without errors. View the full article

Hi. I've been having problems with programs losing focus for a couple of months now. Say I'm using google or firefox I occasionally have to click on the program to regain control over it (write, scroll etc). I'm not quite sure where the problem lies. I've tried going into the registry, even exiting all non-microsoft programs, but nothing has yet to work. It's getting incredibly frustrating, please help! View the thread

I bought this computer today, with windows 8 (not a upgrade). I tried to put a payment option (Settings of the windows store) on my account unsuccessfully because of the region issue. I checked it up on the internet and fixed it. afterwards I tried to add a payment option and now It's stuck in an endless loop of "Payment and Billing". I tried to turn off windows firewall, and McAfee with no success. What should I do? View the full article
