  1. The compaq needs to remain wired to the router.Do not plugin the wirless adaptor. Ok on the back of the router there is a reset button, looks like a tiny hole.Push a blunt item like a pen nib into it so it presses the hideen reset button. Now restart the compaq and now see if you have a connection issue or IP conflict.
  2. Ok lets check something stephanie. What operating system is your main computer and Compaq mini running? I think we need to check what IP they have on each machine.
  3. Hello and welcome. The first thing I would say to do is carefully take off the side of the computer.Power on the computer and listen very carefully and see if you can tell were the sound is coming from. Another thing to do is power off the computer and remove from power outlet. Open her up and touch the PSU for a few seconds. MAKES SURE THE COMPUTER HAS COOLED FIRST. Could you then check the CPU fan is secure and tightly fitted.
  4. Yes I am feeling tired now, work all day then home running after small child.Need some sleep. Maybe I will figure something out,its is good I am learning something new.
  5. If you had both the USB wireless adaptor and the cable connected at the same time to the same computer then there is the problem. It is conflicting IP adress. The airport express is only a WIFI utility. You have one main computer connected directly to the wirless router. Then all other computers can connect to the wirless router either by cable or wirless cards. As I am new to the airport express I am reading up on it. Extended range. If you already have a wireless network in your home and would like to extend its range, AirPort Express is the answer. For example, suppose you want to extend the range of your current AirPort-based network to your backyard, garage, or attic. You can use AirPort Express as a wireless bridge to extend the range of your primary base station.2 There’s no need for extra wires or cables. Just place AirPort Express in range of your primary base station (either an AirPort Extreme Base Station or another AirPort Express Base Station) and near the area where you want your wireless connection. With its easy portability, you can even move AirPort Express from place to place. So if you want to connect wirelessly from your basement one day and your garage the next, just plug it in within range of the primary base station and in a spot near those areas. I am also questioning if your wireless router is compatable. I would wait for one of the more knowing to pop on and see if they can help in the mean time I am still trying to find what the issue maybe.
  6. I have passed your thread on for you. This is bugging me though.Do you have the wirless router and the USB adaptor connected to the same machine?
  7. Stephanie I am going to pass this thread onto one of the higher Admins as the Airplus utility is not my strong point. He can then direct the right person to help you.
  8. Sorry Stephanie I had to feed my daughter and get her off to bed. Could you possibly test the USB wireless adaptor on another computer or laptop and make sure it can connect.
  9. I do a lot of work in the community at the local Drop In Centre which helps the community in many ways.My computer skills although I would say they are better skills hands on than me trying to do written help. Lately my computer skills have been required more and more and free of charge to the local community.I will never be a millionairess at this rate. We also have a community building called Project 104.Brian who runs Project 104 single handed as a volunteer called me to help him with his network issues two weeks ago. He went from BT supplying his internet to the PhoneCoop. This is were his issues started. He has three computers, one cable connected to the Thomson wireless router and two which are supposed to connect via Belkin USB wireless adaptors. Now all was well and working excellent with BT wireless router then he connected the Thomson and no wirless connection. Many many phone calls to The Phone CooP.Gareth the technician talking to Brian as if he was a child.I will add I also taked to Gareth there technician and he also spoke to me as if I was a child. The amount of times the The Phone CooP told Brian THEY DO NOT SEND TECHNICIANS out to set up a router or to help fix any issues was unbelivable. They flatley refused to send a technician out.Now Brian being a patient man then called me in. I set about trying every fix I could think of.I tried every command in ipconfig I could think of,no fix.I tried a winsox fix.I tried adding IPs and setting to auto IP and DNS.I logged onto the router settings and adjusted them, nothing worked so I reset the settings to default. I found one computer infected so I formatted the two public wireless connected computers.I took the Belkin wireless adaptors away and tested them on other computers and one was broken and two were fine. My netbook would not connect to that Thomson,Brains laptop would not connect, other laptops would not connect but they would connect to my wireless no problem, they connect to the Drop In Centres wireless no problem. I managed to get the Belkins and windows to reconise and show a 54 mbp connection after all my effort IE said cannot display this page. Gareth The Phone CooPs technician remote accessed the computer and as I watched him he did some of the exact same things as I had done days before.Guess what?Still no connection. In Gareths opinion he said the issue is all the Belkin USB wireless adaptors are broken, which I know is untrue as two of them work and were used to connect to two other wireless networks with no issues at all.Or he said you have two many IPs trying to connect to the wireless network.WHAT?Mate we only trying to get two computers connected to your rubbish Thomson wireless router. End of story I suppose, nothing will connect to the Thomson wireless router, not via USB wireless adaptor, nore wireless cards in laptops/netbooks. So I ordered the cables and the hub, they arrived Saturday and I set the network up today within a few minutes and all computers online via cable.Brian pays for 8 meg BB and he gets just under 7 meg on all three computers. The local community can now surf for jobs and information about benefits and other information they wishh to find for free. Moral of the story is The Phone CooP has terrible customer services, they DO NOT send technicians out if anything goes wrong,Gareth there emplyee is a very ignorant little man who thinks he can pull the wool over my eyes. They may have good internet speeds but there customer relations is very very poor. I belive what Brian needs is for the Phone CooP to send out a new router and the wireless connection would be resolved, but they even refused to send him a new router. Word of warning I would never have my internet from The Phone CooP after all this hassle Brian and myself had over the past two weeks. Just having a rant,I dont need help with the network I tried every trick in the book.104 is up and running now and everyone is happy. 15 meters of ethernet cable. 2 x1 meter ethernet cable. 1 hub. £20-30. Bargain as the Jelly Bean knows how to shop.
  10. Steph having you got a full connection now without using the USB wireless adaptor?
  11. Have a go at soldering be very carefull and only use a tiny spot of flux and solder.
  12. There maybe a IP adress conflict. Did you follow the setup instructions on the Airport Express disk? Apple - AirPort Express - Easy Setup Are you able to disconnect the Airport experess and the Belkin USB adaptor. Now you have a main computer connected to the Wireless router? Then your compact mini was wireless connection? Or have I got this completely wrong? I just need you to connect the compaq mini via cable to the wirless router and see if it gets a connection. Please check exceptions or allow list in your Firewall settings. Apple - AirPort Express - Features - Internet Sharing
  13. James you snapped the pins off the mainboard? You could try to solder them back on or use an external hard drive case or connect the hard drives to another computer.
  14. Hello and welcome. Lets try the simplist of things first. Turn off the router and turn off the computer. Turn on the router and then turn on the computer/laptop. Hopefully this should kick in the connection.
  15. Installing a Two Router Network Installing a router to work as the second one on a home network requires special configuration. Do the following on the second router to ensure it (and the devices attached) function properly: 1. Connect as local device or bridge - If connecting the second router via Ethernet cable, plug it into one of the LAN ports on the first router. If connecting the second router wirelessly, ensure the second router is set for client mode. Note that some home wireless routers do not support client mode; these must be connected by cable. Check your router documentation for details on its client mode configuration support. 2. Check / change IP address - Most home network routers use a default IP address setting. Often, these default IP addresses will not work in a two router environment. Check the second router's IP address value and reset it if necessary to work within the valid address range of the first router (and to not conflict with any other device on the network). 3. Disable DHCP - To avoid IP address conflicts between all of the devices on the home network, only one of your two routers should assign addresses via DHCP. All mainstream routers provide an option to disable DHCP as part of the router's configuration screens. Instead of adding a second wired router to an existing network, consider adding a network switch instead. A switch accomplishes the same goal of extending the size of a network, but it does not require any IP address or DHCP configuration, greatly simplifying configuration. Step 1 Plug an Ethernet cable into one of the numbered "OUT" ports on the back of the main router in your network. These are the same ports that you would use to connect a device like a computer to the router. This should be done using the router that is directly connected to your Internet modem (if applicable). Step 2 Connect the other end of the same cable to the "IN" port on the back of the second router in your network. This is the port that you would connect directly to an Internet modem if you were only using one router in your home network. Step 3 Make sure that the second router is connected to a wall outlet for power via its included AC adapter. This will provide it with power. Step 4 Connect any computers you want to add to the network to the second router with Ethernet cables. The Internet connection will be passed along from the modem to the first router, at which point it will be passed along via the Ethernet cable to the second router and onto any computers connected to either unit.
  16. The fist thing I would attempt,as the age is a big give away is to replace the CMOS battery. The battery should be changed around every two years or sooner if other issues arised to cause problems with the battery.
  17. If you upgrade that PSU you to around a 500 watt and then you could run an equivilent of a GT 9 serise.
  18. Hello and welcome. Could you please post your computer hardware specifications please, such as RAM,graphics card make and model. Download and run: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer Please post tempratures that SpeedFan shows during normal process and game play. Also what games are you playing.
  19. If you could you switch to a PS/2 set. Or if your using a wireless set switch to a PS/2 set and see if it then works.
  20. The computer may need a bit of a cleanup. How much free space do you have left on the computer? Click start/all programs/accessories/system tools/disk cleanup. Check ALL boxes and click ok. Or download and install: CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download Open CCleaner. Highlight the Cleaner button top left. Click analyze button bottom right. Once analyze has finished click run cleaner button on the bottom right. Open Internet explorer. Click tools/internet options and delete history/temp files etc. Under tools/internet options/advanced tab scroll down to empty temp files when IE closes and click apply. Cloes IE and reopen. Attempt to download and install the updates again.

  22. I tried that in Vista RandyL and it didnt work for me.Grrrrr.
  23. I am a little confused on what you are asking. You can use the forgotten password link on MSN to find out your forgotten password the same thing with bank accounts. To change your home page open IE and click tools/Internet options.
  24. I think this is what you are asking for? How to disable User Account Controls (UAC) in Windows 7 Disable or Turn Off UAC (User Account Control) in Control Panel To user Control Panel to disable UAC in Windows 7, there are several methods to access the User Account Control settings page: Go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Account. Type “MsConfig” in Start Search to start System Configuration, then go to Tools tab, select Change UAC Settings, then click on Launch button. [*]Click on User Account Control settings link. http://www.mydigitallife.info/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/win7-uac.jpg Slide the slider bar to the lowest value (towards Never Notify), with description showing Never notify me. http://www.mydigitallife.info/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/windows-7-disable-uac.jpg Click OK to make the change effective. Restart the computer to turn off User Access Control. Method 2: Disable UAC with Registry Editor (RegEdit) Run Registry Editor (RegEdit). To disable the UAC, run the following commands: %windir%\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f and optionally, the following comand to suppress all elevation consent request and notification: %windir%\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f Tip: To re-enable UAC, the command is: %windir%\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f and to turn on prompt for consent UI: %windir%\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f Disable UAC may cause gadget not working in Windows 7. User who facing the issue can use another workaround to suppress User Account Control.
  25. Firstly you should not make multiple threads on the forum on the same subject. However the make of webcam in my opinion I would not touch this make of cam.Cheap and nasty and to gain faults is sure to happen. Your better off buying a good branded one like Logitech.
