Oh thats brilliant. Are you able to set first boot device to CD/DVD rom and pop in the disk. I dont want you to do a recovery or full install but a repair install and see if that gets you up and running. 1. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD. 2. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen. 3. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console. 4. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement. 5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP. 6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Have you tried restarting the computer and repeatedly tap F8 and then you should get a list of choices. Try last known good config or safe mode? Do either of these work? It may take a few tries and restarts to reach the menu choices.

Click start,All Programs/Accesories/Command Prompt. Type in ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. In command prompt type ipconfig /release and hit enter. Then type ipconfig /renew and hit enter. Now shut down the laptop and press the reset button on the wireless router, then restart the laptop. Now can you connect? -

Vista Home- Endless hourglass after logging on
Jelly Bean replied to raca24's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
You can try the tool ben however I am thinking corruption and possibly a repair being done on the operating system. I dont want to asume a recovery as all files would have to be backed up first and can take time. I would agree a virus may of caused some corruption. -
I am going to move you over to the malware forum for the security guys to help you.

Vista Home- Endless hourglass after logging on
Jelly Bean replied to raca24's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
From the problem description, I understand that the update KB929777 failed to be installed and the error code 8000FFFF was received. Please feel free to let me know if I misunderstood the issue. I understand the inconvenience you encountered when trying to perform Windows Update. Please be assured that I will do my best to help you. The issue may be caused by the following factors: 1. The installation is affected by some third-party security software. 2. The downloaded installation file is corrupted. In order to narrow down the cause of our issue, let's refer to the following steps: NOTE: Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try accessing the Windows Update site later. Please be sure to enable them again when the update process has been completed. Step 1: Reload the Update temporary folders =================================== This step can help us reload the downloaded installation files. 1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window. Net stop WuAuServ 2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter. 3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to Sdold. 4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window. Net start WuAuServ -
