  1. You are very welcome. I think if you add the matching RAM sticks at the higher speed you will find your computer will run much faster. It is possible having the diffrent speeds and gig the computer is not utilising the RAMS full capacity.
  2. Hello there. Download the service manual from here. Or you can just click on view. I hope this helps. JB.
  3. Hello there, the first thing I note is your computer can take upto 4 gig RAM/Mmeory. 256MB DDR2 533/667/800 SDRAM expandable to 4GB I also am reading your computer cames with a standard 2 x 512 mb RAM. It appears you 2 x 1 gig stick installed and a 512 mb. Many computers do not take mixed sized RAM. I also noted the diffrence in speed of your RAM.Acer says 533/667/800 you have two RAM sticks fitted and are 430. I would recomend you add 2 to 4 gig of RAM of the same make and model, speed etc. Also there is a possibility you can fit an internal fan rather than put a fan to blow air at the computer
  4. Hello and welcome. I can recommend a few books mum may like to purchase and read at her own leasure if that would help? Roughguides.com is a great site and you can buy the books in WHSmiths. PCs and Windows,Internet by Peter Buckly and Duncan Clarke are great pocket books to buy. With good instructions. I cannot find my book about Windows 7 at the moment,it has great basic help with pictures bought from WHSmiths,I got it for half price. DO NOT buy Computers form Dummies book, mum may take offence. WHSmiths also do great hardback books such as The Computer Book,Windows Vista.Office and Windows XP... They may well be a good book that can help mum and help her learn. JB.
  5. That is brilliant Markus,I am glad your up and running again.
  6. Hello and welcome. I have done a search on this and it appears to go back to your origonal version of windows you need a full install disk or recovery disks, not good news I am afraid to say. You can order recovery disks from your computer manufacturer. Windows 8
  7. Hello and welcome. The first thing I would do is check your PSU,do you have another one you could fit and test the system.
  8. Hello and welcome. I would say yes you can upgrade the internal hard drive to a 500 gig possibly a 1TB.... But you would need a FULL install vista OS to reinstall windows or possibly install XP then use an upgrade disk to install Vista.
  9. Download Speed Fan from here, press green button on the left: http://download.cnet.com/SpeedFan/3000-2094_4-10067444.html
  10. Hey,sorry Ive got a nephew for a few days and oh boy Ive been kept on my toes. For other items to be downloaded with SpeedFan is not right.Did you click a link I gave you or did a search yourself? SweetFix often comes bundled with I am afraid to say dodgey downloads and SpeedFan from the link in my earlier post doent include SweetPCFix. Go to control panel and uninstall the toolbar,SweetPCFix and any other items that are labeled with the same name.
  11. I dont use Zone Alarm myself but I hear good things about it.I am sure one of the Security guys can tell you a lot more than I can. Im sure one or two will be on here a little later and can advise you...
  12. Hey Rez,Zone alarm is good. But look here for FREE AV software, why pay when you can get a very good one for free. AntiVirus Software JB.
  13. If you post your computer hardware specs we could see whats for the best. However if your computer is a little older as it appears to be with just 250 watt PSU then I think that 1000 watt PSU would certainly be an over kill. An older computer may not be compatable with such a large wattage.
  14. Hello and welcome. Have you tried a CD/DVD disk cleaner?
  15. Hello chris and welcome. Was Vista preinstalled or did you install it yourself or someone else? Do you have the install disk and is it fully legal and or a full install disk or a recovery disk? Or did you make recovery disks? Firstly I would check all internal cables are fully in there ports.Do this while the computer turned off and remove from wall socket. If you have a card reader or floppy disk drive do they light up? Is your CPU fan spinning and all other fane or just some? Do you have a spare power supply could test the system with or can you borrow one? JB.
  16. Hello and welcome. Ive found this : http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/243083/aol_discontinues_listserv_mailing_list_service.html
  17. What are the system specs?
  18. mij have you done a disk cleanup? Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Disk Cleanup. The machine maybe just clogged up with junk. How much free space is left on the computer? In disk cleanup,if windows.old is listed than can be removed if all files needed from it are already removed.
  19. Hello Mij. Did you buy this key expecting a disk with it,was it advertised as with install disk? You can upgrade Windows Vista via a download: [h=1]Download Windows 7[/h] Is there crtification that the key is genuine? If the computer/laptop has issues an upgrade will proberly NOT cure them. Do you want help in trying to fix the issues? Have you tried a system restore? If it is a virus issue that would need to be cured before the upgrade. JB
  20. Could this be something like Virtual Destop? Do you know what I mean? Were you can split one monitor into two or four screens?
  21. Thats ok,I am just getting you a link. Here is a YouTube video: According to your computer specifications you have a PCI express graphics card. Can you get your hubby to clean the internals of the computer with a natural brissle brush and reasit the graphics card and RAM.Or someone who knows a little about computers. Sorry about the wait for a reply I have not been well. Dont worry about anything,if you feel you dont understand I can explain further for you. Download and install Speedfan do not be afriad of it. Once installed allow it to run and check the tempratures of your computer,do not change anything just allow it to run.Just write down what it says for me please. JB.
  22. You can test your monitor on a laptop. These days laptops have VGA and DVI port to add a monitor,VGA is blue coloured connection DVI is white,do you know which your monitor has? I need you to power off the computer.Unplug from wall socket.Open up your computer and touch your power supply for a few seconds once it has cooled down this will eliminate static. Now look were your monitor cable is connected. Is it connected to a little socket that is intergrated to your mainboard or is it in a coloured slot? If its in a coloured slot then this means it is a PCI card little box on mainboard is intergrated. If its is PCI and has any cables connected to it make sure they are fully fitted and make sure the card is pushed into the slot fully. What is the model and number of your computer? Have you checked your power settings for this monitor? Try turning off hibernation and sleep mode and see if it still occurs. Update the graphics card driver via device manager if you need help doing this please ask. A little late replying due to family needing help. JB.
  23. Ive answerd this thread on another foum. Its at least a double post in a way.Its been answered this can and dont need any further help.
  24. Confused. You need to check this monitor on another computer. Have you checked the cables are fully connected? Is your graphics card onboard as intergrated or a PCI slot?
  25. Hey there. Could you do me a favour we are talikng about a laptop here? When the screen goes black could you look real close or shine a tourch onto it and see if you can actualy see the desktop.Very faintly?
