  2. do you receive the standard bios beeps when the pc is powered on. if so can you describe them..... are all fans turning etc, hardware all sat correctly. i would try removing the cmos battery for 30 mins,,to reset the bios, just to make sure there isnt an incorrect setting....causing this. try removing the graphics card and testing the on board vga,,,definatly need to know if you receive video from that connection.. we can rule items out then. regards danzil

  8. we need a lot more spec...a 6 gb hard drive running xp is a little to little....10gb minimum really.... you could try partition magic to merge the d to the c.giving the os th e4full hard drive capacity... alternativly you could get a bigger hard drive and clone the hard disk......saving installing everything again.....what is the make and model of this laptop... danzil
  9. download aida32,then browse for the device,it will then tell you the make and sometimes a link for the driver...once you know the make of the hardware google for the driver danzil
  10. explore your hard drive,,find where the most of the files are stored, using the right click and properties,,to tell you the file sizes..you will then be able to track down where the big files are stored, this can be a lenghty boring process but works, i say lengthy 10 mins, tedious is probably the correct word. danzil
  11. check and double check your heatsink and fan,,,if the cpu gets hot then it will power off....... check with another stick of ram....are you getting anything on screen...any bios beeps......when it powers off is there any beeps just before. please give give as much info as possible. danzil

  13. do you have access to another computer, the easiest way would be to put that drfive into another pc,then burn the data to a cd,,,as its that old,,you may get the whole hard drive on a DVD or 2... alternativly, get another hard drive then copy the data to it via dos using a win98 boot floppy from,,,,http://www.bootdisk.com/ then use the copy command to copy it to the other hard drive.... the 1st suggestion is thre easiest.....or you search for a bootable version on 98pe cd,,this allows you top boot into 98 without installing it (runs from the cd)then you can copy you files to floppies etc. danzil
  14. vista already is as good as xp ,y opnion...it has a lot lees flaws then when xp firt cam out.......it has some many features that will help everyone...like shadow copies etc.....system restore when you cant even boot the os... just my views but xp does indeed still rock danzil
