I used to use Macrium for my images. But now I use this process. Although the title says... 'Win 10'... it works just the same on Win 8. How to create an image backup in Windows 10 and restore it, if need be
-
Hi madon37s That's perfectly ok. Although there are a few issues we need to address in the reports, It looks like the bulk of your problems are program conflicts. A system should never have multiple AV programs or multiple Firewalls installed. ZoneAlarm Security Includes an AV program as well as the Firewall. AVG Internet Security Includes a firewall as well as other security software. So it looks like you have 2 firewalls running and 2 AV programs..... that is cause for alarm. Then we get to: Trusteer Endpoint Protection AVG is already giving you banking protection .... so these could well conflict. Also... if you do a search for Trusteer Rapport problems, you'll find there's a lot of people complaining about it. These are just 2 threads on another site that I work that are Trusteer related: trusteer rapport IBM Trusteer Rapport - Is it fit for purpose? It is known to have problems with newer versions of Chrome and some AV programs. It's not something that I would want on any of my systems. Recommendation. I'd advise removing the following programs and let AVG do it's job properly. Trusteer Endpoint Protection ZoneAlarm Security ------------------ Now to tidy up the reports. (we'll also remove the Spybot leftovers) Please download the attached fixlist.txt file (bottom of this post) and save it to C:\Users\new user\Downloads. NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system Re-run FRST/FRST64 (which ever is installed ) and press the Fix button just once and wait. http://i.imgur.com/HbL7sAI.png The tool will make a log in the Download folder (Fixlog.txt). Please post this in your next reply. Also let me know if there's any improvement in the system. Thanks fixlist.txt

Hi there, We can do that the easy way. We can get the info for you and advise what could be slowing down the system. This tool has multiple uses ( it's not just for malware removal) Note: There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool available. Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you are unsure what you're system bit type is..... click Here for help. For x32 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the downloaded icon to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer. Make sure that Addition.txt is selected at the bottom Press Scan button. http://i.imgur.com/YO62v3X.png It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please copy and paste it to your reply also. Let me have both FRST reports and I'll take a look for you. Thanks.

[Solved] Free Adblock download for Windows 8.1
Starbuck replied to bj43cj47's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi BJ, What browser are you using? The benefits of ad blocking include quicker loading and cleaner looking web pages free from advertisements, lower resource waste (bandwidth, CPU, memory, etc.), and privacy benefits gained through the exclusion of the tracking and profiling systems of ad delivery platforms. Blocking ads can also save substantial amounts of energy. Users who pay for total transferred bandwidth ("capped" or pay-for-usage connections) including most mobile users worldwide, have a direct financial benefit from filtering an ad before it is loaded. Streaming audio and video, even if they are not presented to the user interface, can rapidly consume gigabytes of transfer especially on a faster 4G connection. It is a known problem with most web browsers, including Firefox, that restoring sessions often plays multiple embedded ads at once. Using an advertisement blocker stops such behaviour. No adblocker will completely remove all ads.... but they will get rid of about 90% - 95% of them. Firefox: uBlock Origin Click on Add to Firefox. Once installed, I recommend that you update the blocking definitions. Tools >> Add-ons >> Extensions >> Options in uBlock Origin. Scroll down and click on Show Dashboard. Now click on 3rd Party Filters >> Update Now. Google Chrome: uBlock Origin Click on Add to Chrome Once installed, I recommend that you update the blocking definitions. Right click on the uBlock Origin icon (top right of the browser) and select Options. Now click on 3rd Party Filters >> Update Now. Edge: uBlock Origin Preview Internet Explorer: Since uBlock Origin is not available for IE, I'll recommend you install Adblock Plus for Internet Explorer instead. Click on Install for Internet Explorer. Click on Run notification at the bottom of the browser. If you now get a notification saying IE is still running, would you like to shut down.... click Yes. Follow the install pages by click next and finally finish. Re-open Internet Explorer. At the bottom you'll see: The Adblock Plus for IE browser helper object is ready for use..... click Enable. -
Sometimes the DNS cache stored in Windows can cause DNS related errors. Try flushing it with these steps: Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories, Now right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. Type the following command, and then press the ENTER key on the keyboard: (the space is meant to be there between the g and the / ) . ipconfig /flushdns . Once the command completes, close the command prompt box, (type exit and press the Enter key again) then attempt to load a web page using Chrome. You could also try resetting Chrome: To reset Google Chrome Click the Menu option button at the top right of the Google Chrome screen Select Settings. http://i.imgur.com/ARpxoJc.png . Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settings” section. http://i.imgur.com/sw5cGQz.png Click Reset browser settings. http://i.imgur.com/V2Rv2W1.png In the dialogue that appears, click Reset. Note: When the "Help make Google Chrome better by reporting the current settings" tick box is selected you are anonymously sending Google your Chrome settings. Reporting these settings allows us to analyze trends and work to prevent future unwanted settings changes. Resetting your browser settings will impact the settings below: Default search engine and saved search engines will be reset and to their original defaults. Homepage button will be hidden and the URL that you previously set will be removed. Default startup tabs will be cleared. The browser will show a new tab when you startup or continue where you left off if you're on a Chromebook. New Tab page will be empty unless you have a version of Chrome with an extension that controls it. In that case your page may be preserved. Pinned tabs will be unpinned. Content settings will be cleared and reset to their installation defaults. Cookies and site data will be cleared. Extensions and themes will be disabled.

A quick question about Malwarebytes.....
Starbuck replied to Skyclad's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
That is correct..... the premium version does revert to the free version after 14 days. Basically you lose the realtime scanning and update options. So you have to manually update MalwareBytes and manually run scans. You can revert the Premium version to the free version anytime you want. If you decide that you only want to run the free version: From the Dashboard click.. Settings >> My Account >> Deactivate Premium Trial. http://i.imgur.com/S2iTuhP.png -

How to stop music on Ebay - it only happens in Edge!
Starbuck replied to joddle's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi joddle, The fix ran ok. This line isn't a problem line....It was my mistake. I had forgotten that Farbar has removed the ability to remove Chrome extensions. The extension isn't malicious .... it's classed as 'open to debate'. If you wanted to remove it you can by using Chromes own tools. Are you still getting the music playing? -
How to stop music on Ebay - it only happens in Edge!
Starbuck replied to joddle's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi joddle, I see nothing in the reports to suggest the issue you have. The old music playing malware used to change this file: But as you can see, it's legit.... so that's not the problem. There are a few things to clear up in the reports. The fix will also clean a few other areas. Please download the attached fixlist.txt file (bottom of this post) and save it to the Desktop. NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Hi joddle, There was a music playing malware doing the rounds a year or two ago, but I haven't seen it for ages now. Ok, time to have a good look at this. How to stop music on Ebay - it only happens in Edge!
Starbuck replied to joddle's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Was that using Edge? This is just a theory.... if using other browsers doesn't give the same result, do these other browsers have an adblocker installed? The adblocker that I always recommend is uBlock Origin. uBlock Origin is now available for Edge: uBlock Origin for Edge As we have no idea what is causing this..... there's nothing to lose by installing it and see if this cures the problem or not. -

Hi joddle, Definitely is odd. I've tried Ebay using Edge and no music at all. I've just looked all through the Ebay settings and there isn't anything relating to this music. -

Cannot download Important Windows update
Starbuck replied to PEV's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Ray, All's well thanks. Having a look I see that the Ralink Technology, Corp. - WLAN - Ralink RT5390R 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter was last updated on 4/12/2013. Microsoft Update Catalog it seems that a lot of HP users either lost their internet or had intermittent internet after Win10 was installed. I can't find any concrete evidence but I'm guessing that M$ probably pushed this out to try and help users regain their internet. If yours is still working, it could be that you didn't need it reinstalling. On checking my system updates, I see.... It's never been offered to my system again. I just assume I don't need it.... the system runs fine anyway. -
Strange popup from Firefox
Starbuck replied to jimmyedwards's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Does this popup appear when using any other browser? If it's only when using Firefox, try resetting Firefox back to the defaults. To Reset Firefox At the top of the Firefox window, click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information Click the Reset Firefox… button in the upper-right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page. To continue, click Reset Firefox in the confirmation window that opens. Firefox will close and be reset. When it's done, a window will list the information that was imported. Click Finish and Firefox will open. Note: After the reset is finished, your old Firefox profile information will be placed on your desktop in a folder named "Old Firefox Data." If the reset didn't fix your problem you can restore some of the information not saved by copying files to the new profile that was created. If you don't need this folder any longer, you should delete it as it contains sensitive information. The reset feature works by creating a new profile folder for you while saving your most important data. Firefox will try to keep the following data: Bookmarks Browsing history Passwords Cookies Web form auto-fill information Personal dictionary -

Strange popup from Firefox
Starbuck replied to jimmyedwards's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
This is not from Firefox it self. It's either a compromised webpage you are accessing or a piece of adware on your system. .ne is the Internet country code top-level domain for Niger.... so what ever it is, it won't be good. I suggest that you run AdwCleaner to make sure there's no adware on the system. Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes onto your desktop. Close all open programs and internet browsers. Right-click on the downloaded icon and select Run As Administrator. Click on the Scan button. https://i.imgur.com/ntuVdrx.png AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer. After the scan has finished... Click on the Clean button.(if anything is found) https://i.imgur.com/WQROi3Z.png Press OK when asked to close all programs. https://i.imgur.com/w9qrEoJ.png Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[C0].txt) will open automatically. Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply. A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder. -

Windows 10 the only variable
Starbuck replied to ragnar23's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Easiest way is run the Crucial Scan. This will tell you how much Ram memory is installed, how many modules, how many slots are used, how many are available, how much Ram memory can be installed and what type of memory you can install. E.G: https://i.imgur.com/pThzcBS.png Go to http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/index.aspx 1. First, agree to the terms and conditions. 2. Click the "download the scanner" button, and choose "Save File" when prompted. 3. Save the file to your desktop, or anywhere you prefer. 4. Navigate to this saved CrucialScan.exe file and open. If you get a security warning, click "Run" to allow the download. 5. It will take several moments while your browser is updated with your scan results. When the report comes up it will tell you how much Ram memory is installed, how many modules, how many slots are used, how many are available, how much Ram memory can be installed and what type of memory you can install. Crucial will also give you a price for any recommended Ram upgrades, but you don't have to accept this. You are free to use their scanner and then buy your Ram chips from wherever you want. -
Windows 10 the only variable
Starbuck replied to ragnar23's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
You can check this by running the Windows built in tool: Windows Memory Diagnostic This works by writing data to each sector of your computer’s RAM and then reading it back in turn. If the tool reads a different value, this indicates that your RAM is faulty. Instructions: How to Test Your Computer’s RAM for Problems -

Hi ragnar23 As joddle pointed out, 8GB of ram is ok to run Win10 and shouldn't be a problem.(but the new Ram could be faulty as pointed out) How much Ram did you add and how much can the MB actually handle? What MB is installed? -
One of my PCs won't install w10
Starbuck replied to joddle's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I see your predicament joddle. Although Mainstream support has finished for Win7, you will still get Extended support until January 14, 2020. With Win10 creators edition, if an incompatible system is detected.... the update is meant to abort. But that's not to say that it always works. The big bugbare with Win10 is that you can't turn off the updates ..... so by installing an older version doesn't mean that it won't try and update again. If I was in your position, I'd probably opt for sticking with Win7 and saving myself the aggro.
