  1. Hi Jimmy, The original setting was fine - 3.2 GB is enough to store quite a few restore points. I was originally thinking that it may be set to nearer to zero - hence any old restore points would be automatically deleted. This, however, should not be the case. If you don't have the box to click for more restore points then I suspect that you only have the one available. Try creating one manually and see if the ones from 29th Sept are kept. [ re-boot the machine after creating the new restore point ]
  2. Hi Jimmy Click on "Configure" [ your first image ] What is the "Max Usage" set to ?
  3. Hi Barryuk99 Welcome to ExTS Thanks for the pics - they do help. It looks like you are attempting to update the BIOS ?? The second image [Winbond W25X80] refers to the BIOS chip. Where did you get the "legal version of Win10" ? Do you have a second machine that you can put the USB memory stick in? If you can - do this and right click on the memory stick > Properties. What is the "Used Space" in GB ? If you left click on the memory stick it should open so that you can see the installed files. Can you copy some of these and post them here please? I am trying to determine if you do have Windows 10 on the memory stick.
  4. ?? Do you mean Dell Optiplex ? What is the model number please? Do you get any beeps just after you switch on ?? If so - what is the sequence? [ 3 short beeps for example ]
  5. It could be that the 16GB is a different motherboard. The Crucial scan is usually accurate. Let us know how you get on.
  6. Hi Earlier I wanted to confirm which motherboard you had fitted. [see previous post - June 27th] The M-Board decides the max amount of RAM you can install. You can either let me know what M-Board you have or use the Crucial Scanning Tool - click here This will tell you what the max RAM is and make suggestions. I don't think that you will. Personally I wouldn't take the chance. Some suggest that you can - but there are always others who suggest that it didn't work for them. I would be inclined to stick with the manufactures recommendation.
  7. You have clicked on the "Quote" option but not written anything in reply to my questions.
  8. Welcome to ExTS. Is this a Windows 10 machine ? If so - laptop or desktop? Presumably you have tried switching it off and then back on again ? What is the make and model number of the machine ?
  9. Let's know how you get on Jim :)
  10. Hi Jim The clean boot will not cure your problem - it simply disguises it. If things are "normal" after you have done this then it indicates that there is something running in the normal boot-up that has been stopped from running by doing a clean boot.
  11. Hi Jim You would expect to see a difference in boot-up times - Safe Mode should be quicker. 35 seconds is still a long time to wait for Google to open. Can you try some software - Word or one of the other programs you have installed. This then excludes the internet and associated problems. Safe Mode and normal boot up. Try the software a few times to get an average. Make a note of the times. Pete suggested a clean boot a few posts back. Give this a go and let us know how you get on. Does this make any difference to the software / internet times ?
  12. I was heading in that direction Starbuck - just wanted to know the results of Safe Mode. Nice to know we are on the same wavelength :)
  13. Download Firefox from here - click here Install it. Try the problem website using this browser. Let me know how you get on.
  14. Let me know how it goes Jim :)
  15. Back to my original question ...... When you booted up in safe Mode - did it run significantly faster ? If so it could be something running in the background slowing the system down.
  16. Hi If it is an email scam then MBam and AV will be unlikely to pick it up. Let's hope that you have seen the last of them
  17. You have not answered my questions 1. Have you tried a different browser ? 2.Are you using Internet Explorer? 3. have you tried re-booting the computer?
  18. Hi Jim It is showing that you have 2 modules - one 2GB and the other 1GB Which confirms what you said. If, as Starbuck suggested, you have an all-in-one it is difficult to access the RAM so what I suggested earlier may not be possible. :(
  19. Hi and welcome I have replied to your problem re websites. Let's hope we can sort it out for you :)
  20. Hi and welcome to ExTS I suppose that you have tried rebooting the pc ? Have you tried a different browser - FireFox for instance ? Which browser are you using ? If Internet Explorer..... Try running in "No Addons" mode Open Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). Is this on ALL websites ?
  21. We just said it was unusual :)
  22. I agree - RAM is usually even numbers. Try this for me..... Start > type in .....command .... click on command prompt that appears. At the prompt [ black screen ] type .... wmic MemoryChip get BankLabel, Capacity ...........then hit Enter [ take care to get the spaces and comma correct ] You should see something like this .... The capacity is a bit confusing ............ mine shows 8 Gig BANK is the slot that the module is in. I have one 8Gig RAM module. The results will tell us if you have 2 modules and what size.
  23. Hi Jim, The Free Space is fine. The amount of RAM is fine too. When you booted up in Safe Mode - did it run significantly faster ? The problem machine probably has 2 RAM modules. Are you happy to access them? [not sure if you have a laptop or desktop ?] Some laptops are awkward to get at the RAM. If you can access the RAM try running on just 1 module. If still a problem - swap them over and run on the other. If the machine runs OK on just one module then the other module could be faulty. Obviously put both back if the problem persists.
  24. You are welcome. Happy that you can now access your files. Just one thing with Open Office. The format that it saves documents in cannot be read by MS Word. If you want to be able to do this then click on File > Save As ......and select from "Save As Type" ..... MS Word 97 Open Office can open MS Word documents. I have just checked and MS Office 2000 is not certified compatible with Win10 This could have been your problem. Enjoy :)
  25. I have the same kit as joddle - it works well. :) Now and again it drops out and I have to re-boot it but this is no problem. The e-bay seller quotes ,,,,,, "......... Item is new and unused with possible box damaged/ box replaced with item seal removed ....." You may want to look elsewhere for the same product if not happy with the above statement.
