Regarding the question, on Windows 7 if I uncheck "Display delete confirmation dialog" I could delete a file without confirmation whether it's on local or network share but in Windows 8 this only affects the data on local drive only and if I try to delete anything from network the confirmation dialog appears even though "Display delete confirmation dialog"is unmarked. I am using windows 8 pro on a Lenovo twist. After I updated the pc, (online updates) I logged in only to discover that some of my icons are missing from the desktop. I then realised that my apps like word 2013 thinks that it is the first time I am running it. Please can anyone assist. I have 64 bit computer purchased new in July 2012 running Windows 7 with a Lexmark Interpret S405 printer. It has been installed and running fine for months, and today I requested a print of a page on a website, and it would not print. I received an error message stating that the printer could not communicate with the computer. I tried to clear the request for the print, but the computer did not respond. So I rebooted it. After it restarted, I went into devices and printers to check the printer, and it had the image representing that it needed troubleshooting. Tried it, but it did not fix the problem. Then I received another message: USB Mass Storage Device has a driver problem. Tried finding and installing updates for that, but the info stated that the most up to date driver was already installed. Can you help me solve this problem? Hello, I have Windows XP Professional on my home computer and about a week ago I noticed a new icon on the start up screen that said "New Briefcase (2)". I'm not that computer literate where I can go and start trying to delete this or that and i would like to know what would happen if I did choose to delete it? The other thing that changed is the color of the background, it used to be the old blue start up screen and now it comes up white and a box appears that asks if I want to restore my Active desktop. When I pushed yes thinking it would take me back to the old blue screen nothing happens, so I end up going to the control panel and opening Desktop and when my old screen pops up, i push okay and it's back to normal until the next time I start it up. What would cause that new icon to just pop up like it did and why the white screen with that question? I haven't done anything that would cause such changes. I do believe I will demonstrate how well windows 8 recovery DVD creation works, and using that upon bootup using a saved image backup stored on a 1tb usb drive. If you included programs in your file history, you copy and past your uninstalled program from file history into your systems programs folder. It wont work because you lost the registry entry, however install the program again and then copy the folder and you have all your setting back, or export your registry into your file history and merge back into you registry and then copy your file history program folder into your system(you do not have to copy every folder in from the filehistory included programs folder, only the uninstalled one). Since I installed a new Windows update a few days ago, the Desktop Window Manager quits working and is closed down every few minutes. It's very annoying. The message I get says that a problem caused the application to shut down and that as soon as a fix is available, I will be notified. Because this problem didn't start appearing until just after the update, I feel that the update caused the problem. When I click on the maps tile, the program opens but it just flickers and then displays a white screen. I can choose my location and the text shows up, but only after the screen flickers and stops, but still no images. I tried both views and neither work. Zooming in or out does not work either.
