I only have one Icon on my desktop and suddenly it has developed a major "blemish". It looks like this: It's the well known perfect disk icon. I cant see many icons but those that I do see seem alright. I have added the mode for eliminating arrows on icon and do not know where this is coming from. My windows xp desktop (background) has turned white along with some message about the action being a safeguard. I have tried "clicking" on an indicated box to "reactivate" the desktop. The resulting popup box offers a choice of "Yes" or "No" regarding a script error. Clicking on either one appears to have no effect as the desktop is still white (inactive?). View this thread

I am a local administrator and I am trying to take ownership of an external hard drive. The drive is NTFS. It currently says the owner of the drive is unavaible. I cannot open the drive and I receive E: is not accessible. Access is denied. When I try to change the permissions it says I do not have rights to change permissions and when I try to take ownership of the drive I receive E: is not accessible. Access is denied. My user uses this drive to switch back and forth between two computers on different networks. The one computer is a on a FQDN and other is a stand alone however he uses his same CAC to log onto both systems. Neither of these machines can see the owner. I am at a loss anyone run into this? The drive is completey useless unless I can figure this out. I also tried formating the drive. Thank you in advance for any advice anyone can give. v/r Vince View the thread

Bij apparaatbeheer stond ie er wel tussen , tijdens opstarten draait ie ( dus functioneert lijkt mij ) . I **** bij deze computer is er niet meer, hij laad ook niks van cd / of speelt af. I was using Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit OS in my Dell Inspiron 1501. The OS came preinstalled and Windows Update updated it to SP2. However recently an unknown problem ocurred and my laptop failed to connect to the internet. As no reason was found ,experts advised reinstallation of Windows Vista. I reinstalled Vista by running the DVD of the OS supplied by Dell with my laptop. The laptop started connecting to internet normally. I started receiving an update Windows Vista SP1. I installed it. Installation unexpectedly took only about five minutes and the computer also did not restart several times on its own as expected. At the end of installation Windows Update notified "Update Successful". Update History also shows successful installation of SP1.However I am receiving the same update every day and installing it in exactly the same way with the same result. After installation the Windows version does not show Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 but only Windows Vista Home Basic. What should I do? View this thread

dear all, i stuck in weird problem with Windows 8. Here it is the scenario: A barcode scanner is connected to a computer with preinstalled Windows8 Ent. there are 2 languages set on the computer- Bulgarian(BG) and English(EN) i choose EN language with WinKey+Space. Open notepad,word or excel and scan a barcode e.g.BLD123456789 . The barcode is scanned corerctly i choose BG language and scan the same barcode-BLD123456789 but the scanned barcode in notepad is now БЛД123456789 i.e. Windows automatically convert( transliterate) the latin characters to the corresponding cyrillic ones. Spelling check is disabled. Default input language is set to EN. Do you have an idea how to disable the automatic conversion if the input language is different from EN? View the full article

I have purchased 4 copies of Office 2010 (recently) on new Windows 8 Pro laptops, with the understanding that I could upgrade Office to 2013 for free when available. I am trying to perform that upgrade on my laptop (1st one of the 4), but am having no luck. I have downloaded and executed the Click to Run program, but nothing happens. I see the process in Task Manager, but as far as I can tell... nothing has happened as a result. There are no registry keys related to Office 15, no changes in my file structure and no files downloaded. I am running Windows 8 Pro with no Proxy Servers and with Office 2010 Pro installed. I am getting the above message when trying to install NC tax return program from H&R Block . This problem occurs each time I try to install the program. Have tried the fixit suggetions, the office fixit suggestions the shell fixit suggestions. I have used all of the know solutions including firewall turn-offs, safe mode installs, admin installs, etc Has anybody found a solution?? Hi,My Windows Update is set on recommended level. The space of hard drive© getting low, and other drives(E,F,G) have enough space. What happens then if the space of drive C comes to bottom level while Windows Update takes place. How much minimum space should I keep for drive C?
