Explorer.exe crashes when righ click on item in left pane on windows explorer nothing in system logs, explorer.exe restarts. Hi to all, i have a laptop running Windows 7 Professional. The problem is strange and havent had it on any other Windows 7 machine. If i click the folder icon on the bottom tool bar (windows explorer) then in the left hand pane expand the C drive then right click on any folder it instantly displays a dialog saying Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close, windows is looking for a fix for this problem (cant remember exact wording) then Explorer.exe restarts. This happens on the local C drive and Network drives. I though it could be a permissions problem so have taken ownership of all files & folders on the C drive which made no difference, i have removed the laptop from our server / domain and it is still the same / no change. Can anyone shed any light on this problem or offer any ideas on fixing it? the laptop is only a few months old and is i5 / 4GB RAM Dell machine running Windows 7 Pro SP1 office 2003 Pro, checked for virus & adware & all clean. Hi, We have a process that creates a .pdf file and writes the file to a users shared folder for example: d:\Share\Docs The shared folder is a network mapped drive. Another process then attempts to open the file for viewing. On a Windows 7 machine this take over 10 seconds to open and in the Sysinternals process monitor it shows as name not found. On a Windows 10 machine the document opens up immediately. Both machines have the same software and versions installed. Any ideas? More...

I think this started with a gpo sending out a new printer, that never installed, perhaps due to elevated permissions this particular printer evidently needs. Clients receiving this gpo will eventually have Print management, Devices and Printers, and any program trying to access any printer, including pdf writers, hang. The only way I've been able to free up a client is by doing a system restore, but some machines that have had this done end up doing it a second time, others not, which is odd. I need a different, more targeted fix method. One clue is that if I reboot a machine while not connected to the network, I can open Devices and Printers and Print Management, but if I reboot that same machine while it is connected to the network, it all hangs when I try to access it. The original gpo is removed though, so it shouldn't be going out anymore. This issue makes the client mostly unusable as any program trying to use printers, or even just grab information about printers will hang. Appreciate any ideas on how to troubleshoot and solve. Hello, I have one workstation with a remote connection problem. OS: Windows 7 enterprise 32-bit Workstation is connected to a domain. Problem started after June or July updates, I cannot connect to the workstation from any host via RDP. it just freezes on "Configuring remote session" and after few minutes it shows a message: "this computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again." All settings are set correctly, all accesses are given. Google is searched fully, neither solution worked for my situation. More...

On my Win7 PC: winsxs: 18.58GB Installer: 16.28GB I have done everything described in How to address disk space issues that are caused by a large Windows component store (WinSxS) directory. Are these sizes normal? Are there any other ways to reduce them? I am asking this because my SSD could really use their space. . Hong More...

I have had trouble viewing certain documents. I've been told I don't have permission. When I checked the Users, I find a list of Users and Groups that I'm unaware of. My computer should only be used by myself and my daughter. How do I know which Users to keep, and which to get rid of? How do I delete unwanted users? I do belong to a group. My computer was given to me by my former employer. Does he still have access to my files? These are the additional users and Groups listed on my computer... Hi, For an unknown reason (my guess is an update was automatically applied and automatically restarted), my computer rebooted overnight and in the morning was stuck in a failed boot loop. When trying to boot I get the message: "Preparing to configure windows" "Do not turn off your computer" Then after a few seconds the computer reboots and does the same thing. Safe mode yields the same result. Using the F8 option to restore last known good configuration doesn't change anything. I can boot into the recovery console. I have tried running SFC /SCANNOW in a command prompt in the recovery console and get the message: "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again." Restarting of course doesn't change anything. So it seems something happened to an unfinished update and is still pending. I think if I can remove this pending update I might be able to boot normally, or at least run SFC and hopefully then boot normally. Does anyone know what I should try to remove this pending update that appears to be preventing a successful boot? Thanks! More...

I'm having a problem with scheduling a task in Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been having problems getting tasks to launch appropriately, so I set up a basic task as a test. I set it to open Calculator at a specific time. I then added options one at a time until I got the same failure to launch that I was getting on my previous tasks. The Calculator test task works as long as it is set for "Run only when user is logged on." As soon as I change the option to "Run whether user is logged on or not", the task fails to launch the application. The task starts (the status says "Running") but Calculator does not start up. I did not change any other option. This happens whether "Do not store password" is checked or not. Why would the "Run whether the user is logged on or not" option cause the task to fail? Is there a way to fix this? Thanks, LDL More...

Hi guys, I have an issue with one of my laptops at home. Randomly (but quite often) there is no sound when I move the "sound cursor" in the speaker tray(and of course there is no sound at all when playing videos or MP3...). The sound is not muted, all is fine when we go to the control panel (no errors), but when we want to TEST if the sound works, we don't hear anything. The workaround is simple, I go to the devmgmt.msc and disable then enable the "REALTEK HD Audio device" and the sound is fine then. But as a system admin I would like to find a permanent solution, in case I have a similar issue with my users at work. What steps I have already done: - update REALTEK HD Audio driver with the latest driver available in their website (2.82). - check with Process Monitor if something is wrong when I move the cursor and have no sound, but didn't found Nothing interesting. - compared task manager processes when the sound is fine and when the sound is not working. But didn't find any diff?rences. Informations: laptop is Lenovo X230, running W7 pro x64, all updates installed, all is working fine on this laptop excepted this sound issue. Nothing is plugged into the laptop (no headphones, no speakers, no docking station, no screen). I have the issue for two month or so, all was fine at the beginning.(I need to find the real cause of the issue and not just do a system restore :) ) Thank you in advance for your help, Don't hesitate to ask complex things to try! We have users in an office in India on a different domain using RDP to remote into VM's on our domain in the U.S. They are using physical Win7 hosts to RDP into Win7 VMs. We have several of these groups, but one site in particular has an intermittent issue where the users get an authentication error. When this happens, we are unable to recreate the issue on our side; we can log in fine and have confirmed we are using the same credentials. I have tried recreating the AD accounts on our domain with no luck. There is no trust between our domains; the only port that is open is 3389 for RDP. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the issue? More...

Event ID 3 Error - Causing crash
BetaTime posted a topic in Microsoft Products Support & Discussions
Hi, I've been having this issue for a few weeks, and am still not 100% sure if this error is causing the crash. I have tried fixing by looking it up, but haven't had much luck. The error is Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D Event ID 3 I have read that deleting the EppOobe.etl can temporarily fix this error/crash but it hasn't for me. I did a full clean reformat and am continuing to crash. I haven't completely ruled out software being the cause of the issue because I still get this same exact error right before a crash. By crash I mean everything just freezes up, sound will loop. I have to hold the power button to turn off and turn back on. Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts. As of right now I'm completely uninstalling MSE to see if the error goes away and the crashes. Thanks in advance -Nick I'll also add that I have monitored all my temps and nothing is wrong with them. If this error isn't causing the crash, then the only 2 things I have left to rule out is failing memory or PSU. Using Asus Probe it shows that all my PSU voltages are normal, though, so I don't think it would be my PSU (?). More... -

I'm having a problem with a number of my Windows 7 x64 machines starting with the July Rollup (KB4338818) and still happening with August (KB4343900). The update installs without any errors, but still shows as needed. I've tried all the basics: resetting the WU client, scf /scannow, installing from local WSUS, installing online from Microsoft and installing from the offline installer downloaded from the update catalog. Nothing works. I don't see anything in the cbs log and all I see in Event Viewer is that it installed successfully. All other updates install just fine. More...

Hello -- one of the many switches that robocopy has is /xf -- to exclude file(s) that are to be excluded --- the help (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/robocopy) notes that I can specify "wildcards" * and ? for the filename --- So I specified the option /xf foo.* and I got a error that this option was invalid Strictly speaking is the help noted that the filename, ie the part of the file identifier before the '.' can have the wildcard and not the file extension/type? Thanks in advance More...
