During the most recent update for Windows 7 KB2670838 Windows has failed to start following the update. I ran the repair tool it failed to identify or fix the problem. I went into the safe mode and did a restore to get things working again. Any ideas what may be wrong? Last try I made sure my Antivirus was off also. View this thread

I'm using Windows 7 and just received 3 "important" updates this morning (Feb 27, 2013); 2 were for Windows 7 and one was for NVIDIA WDDM1.1 I click "install" and the windows' updates work but the nVidia fails. Every time it starts to install, it fails with an error message 800700FF, saying: Update Driver Software – Unknown Device Windows encountered a problem installing the driver for your device Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. NVIDIA GeForce 6200 The extended attributes are inconsistent. If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software. So, I go to nVidia’s website and first of all, there’s no such thing as WDDM1.1 as an nVidia update. This is something microsoft invented to take over nVidia drivers / software. I reboot the computer and my resolution is now at 800 x 600, after I got the BSOD. In device manager it now shows the video card as an “unknown device” without any drivers. I try to uninstall it but windows won’t allow that. I download drivers from nVidia’s site and try to manually update them…it keeps failing and I get the same error message. I try to roll back the drivers…Windows won’t allow that either. I try to manually install the old drivers but that fails as well. Everything I try fails and I get the same error messages. Microsoft is just sending me round and round in circles! I Googled this supposed update and everyone with these nVidia cards and Windows 7 who got this "important" update and have been having the same problem since LAST OCTOBER!!!!!! https://www.google.com/search?source=ig&rlz=1G1SNNT_ENUS393&q=nvidia+wddm1.1+update&oq=nvidia+WDDM1.1&gs_l=igoogle.1.1.0l2j0i10l5j0i8i30.5316.17027.0.20953.14.13.0.1.1.0.482.2407.0j11j0j1j1.13.0...0.0...1ac.1.j8BjIpkatpY At least I've got it partially working now, most people still have blank screens. You'd think that after 4 - 5 months microsoft would fix this or at least stop sending out this faulty update that works like a Trojan? Major Geeks, Overclockers, Tom’s Hardware, etc all recommend never to install driver updates from window’s update but to go to the manufacturer’s website and do it manually. Oh ya….and microsoft has the audacity to keep sending me messages that I have an ‘”important” update I need to install....NVIDIA Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1 . ARE YOU SERIOUS??? So my questions is: Hey microsoft....what are you going to do about fixing everyone's computers? Aren't you the least bit conscientious about having caused so much trouble for so many people over so many months? If you click on the Google link I enclosed, you'll see that a plethora of people on numerous sites / forums have been complaining about how your update has messed up their computers. Now all we have are computers with video cards that don't work, we're unable to install current nVidia drivers, we're unable to install previous nVidia drivers and we can't even install your magical WDDM1.1 update!!! I'd really appreciate an answer FROM microsoft about what kind of patch you're working on to fix this! View this thread

I have two Windows 7 computers connected to a Windows 2003 Small Business Server, neither computer has updated since 2/16/2011. When I try to run the update I get error 80072EE2, a few times I received error 8024400E - I received the second error after having turned off Norton Firewall. Here is what I've tried: I ran Microsoft Fix It -- which said it fixed the problem but didn't; I added Windows update sites to Firewall allow list; then I killed Norton Firewall; then I killed all Norton software; then logged in as server admin on the work station with Norton still down; then logged in as a local user with Norton still down. EDIT: Both computers are running 32 bit Windows 7 Pro, one of the computers is running a 64bit AMD processor the other is an Intel. View this thread

I have been plagued with this error for months and cannot find a solution that will work. I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 SP1 32-bit. Windows searched for updates and they all installed without problems. I made windows search again for updates to see if there were any others and now I get the 80072EFE error. I have tried all of the fixes I have found on the Internet. There is no virus protection currently on the machine to interfere. Windows firewall is turned off. Other computers have no issue updating so there should not be a problem with the Internet filter or the router. I have had this happen on multiple machines from different vendors. I have tried both wired and wireless connections. I'm really frustrated with Microsoft right now. Please help. View this thread

Downloaded Vista SP1 pack from prompt on icon in toolbar of Toshiba Satellite A200. After download Laptop will not boot up, message comes up that windows will do 'start up repair' but it goes on for hours and doesn't seem to fix anything. Have tried safe mode and also tried the option this morning to start in normal mode but laptop stuck at '28497/90621 (RegistryMachineComponents Derived Data..) Can anybody please give me an idea of what has happened and how I can fix the problem, if I could get into the machine I would restore back to before download. I thought that a download from Microsoft would be safe?. I have a basic knowledge of a pc so would be very, very grateful if someone can please helpCheers View this thread

windows update installed a virus scanner .. it detected my vipre virus protection and my vipre detected it as a virus.. the microsoft virus scanner wanted me to pay 59.99 or some such for it to remove all the trojans and such it found.. which were actually my own virus scanner.. the vipre kicked in and removed the other virus scanner which was part of windows and ruined the windows. i had to completely reinstall windows.. thanks for wasteing a whole day of my time.. would have cost me 80.00 at the repair shop.. I would think microsoft would give us the option of downloading it before it installs in case we already use another virus scanner.. i have since turned off automatic updates.. but my mom does not know how to decide what to download for updates. i have to go to her house now and update her windows to be sure the virus scanner is not installed???? how do i protect myself from this virus scanner from being installed.. i dont want it. i already have virus scanner. friends have siad the same thing happened to them. i have 6 other computers that do not have automatic update turned on .. thank god. how can i make this easyer for my mom so i dont have to reinstall her windows again. Hello I have a problem installing SP1 in Windows Vista. It doesn’t install at all but it says it was successfully installed. I’m going to give you some details. SP1(KB936330) is offered via Automatic updates. When I install it, one second after it says it was successfully installed. Some minutes later the cycle begins again through automatic updates and everything happens the same way. In the Windows update history it says I installed it several times. What I did: I tried the “Fix it” but didn’t work. In the windows update history I noticed there are many updates that failed the installation. The first one is Micros. .NET Frame. 3,5 SP1 e .NET Frame. 3,5 Family Update – KB951847 . It failed the installation on the 22.February.2013. Afterwards there are 38 Updates that failed like KB 951066, KB959108, KB956802 and many more. I can imagine it has something to do with this. Details: Windows Vista Home Premium – 64 bits. SP1 and SP2 not installed. Antivirus – Microsoft Security Essentials (I’m not able to turn it off). Firewall – Windows I left the desktop in a shop to change the HDD and to install the same OS I had. They did it and they used their own DVD from Vista with my original key. While in the shop during the update, 38 were not successful. When I got the computer I can’t install SP1. Can anybody give me a tip to solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance. View this thread
