  1. windows update installed a virus scanner .. it detected my vipre virus protection and my vipre detected it as a virus.. the microsoft virus scanner wanted me to pay 59.99 or some such for it to remove all the trojans and such it found.. which were actually my own virus scanner.. the vipre kicked in and removed the other virus scanner which was part of windows and ruined the windows. i had to completely reinstall windows.. thanks for wasteing a whole day of my time.. would have cost me 80.00 at the repair shop.. I would think microsoft would give us the option of downloading it before it installs in case we already use another virus scanner.. i have since turned off automatic updates.. but my mom does not know how to decide what to download for updates. i have to go to her house now and update her windows to be sure the virus scanner is not installed???? how do i protect myself from this virus scanner from being installed.. i dont want it. i already have virus scanner. friends have siad the same thing happened to them. i have 6 other computers that do not have automatic update turned on .. thank god. how can i make this easyer for my mom so i dont have to reinstall her windows again. 2. Hello I have a problem installing SP1 in Windows Vista. It doesn’t install at all but it says it was successfully installed. I’m going to give you some details. SP1(KB936330) is offered via Automatic updates. When I install it, one second after it says it was successfully installed. Some minutes later the cycle begins again through automatic updates and everything happens the same way. In the Windows update history it says I installed it several times. What I did: I tried the “Fix it” but didn’t work. In the windows update history I noticed there are many updates that failed the installation. The first one is Micros. .NET Frame. 3,5 SP1 e .NET Frame. 3,5 Family Update – KB951847 . It failed the installation on the 22.February.2013. Afterwards there are 38 Updates that failed like KB 951066, KB959108, KB956802 and many more. I can imagine it has something to do with this. Details: Windows Vista Home Premium – 64 bits. SP1 and SP2 not installed. Antivirus – Microsoft Security Essentials (I’m not able to turn it off). Firewall – Windows I left the desktop in a shop to change the HDD and to install the same OS I had. They did it and they used their own DVD from Vista with my original key. While in the shop during the update, 38 were not successful. When I got the computer I can’t install SP1. Can anybody give me a tip to solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance. View this thread

After installing the Win7 x64 Platform Update KB2670838 (as recommended) no internet browsers would run, Firefox V19.0 and Internet Explorer V9.0.13 (both 32 and 64bit) would all crash on start up. Other programs I tried that access the internet directly would run without problem. To be able run any internet browser I have had to uninstall KB2670838.What is the issue with KB2670838 and internet browsers? 9. Greetings Community. I'm hoping by posing this question, I will earn responses from some disgruntled windows-savy people, being that, apparently, microsoft is too good to help me themselves. The following are two error messages I've been receiving regarding my windows installer, which occur whenever I attempt to update my vista 32-bit, or Java, or Adobe, or anything for that matter:WindowsUpdate_80096001" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"WindowsUpdate_00000641" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"Now, I am not a lazy person, but I do not have the time to rifle through all of microsoft's hidden patches. I do work, as all of you do, and I also go to college, as I'm sure many of you do as well. I am not asking anyone to look for patches for me, but perhaps offer advice as to how I might fix my problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. View this thread
  10. I have a Windows 8 64Bit-System with Defender with all updates up to last saturday (24.02.2013). Since sunday (25.02.2013) the 'Windows Update search-function' don't work anymore (is running endless) . One of the system messages was 'Update Database is wrong', but after ending the offered problem handling function as administrator (0x80070490) successfully things are the same. View this thread

  13. Hi, I used to have the MsMpSvc service deactivated at system boot and manually active it at a later time. After the last and most recent update this is no longer possible. The MsMpSvc service is especially protected. No matter what I tried - taking ownership, adjusting security rights in the registry and so on - nothing worked out. I hope to get some help in how to set the MsMpSvc service to disabled or manual. Thanks. View this thread

  15. Hello Everyone, So today, when I turned on my PC. It came up with a black backround, with most of my shortcuts missing. A minute later a message popped up saying I was unable to connect my administritive shares. I restarted my computer, and everything was back to normal again. Also, it happened after I got a Windows Update, if that is the cause of the problem. It was the first time this happened to me too. Can someone explain to me why this happened? EDIT: Looking through the Update History, the update which was installed after that happened was "Platform Update for Windows 7 x64-Edition (KB2670838). Thankyou. View this thread
  16. Looks like many programs are running at startup that I DO NOT WANT TO WHEN I start up my computer. When I go to Windows Help and support The number one thing to do is to 1. OPEN WINDOWS DEFENDER However when I click on link in support it says Windows Defender is OFF click to turn on then nothing happens. Then When I go to Microsoft and try and download Windows defender the download DOES NOT COMPLETE AND I get a message that says "WINDOWS DEFENDER IS ALREADY INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER" I can't find it - I can't use it - and I CAN NOT FIND ANY OTHER WAY to stop programs from running at start up. Does anyone know how to do this without Windows Defender(I prefer not to reinstall it since I've noticed problems and saw a TON of problems with it on this site. So I just need to know how to STOP PROGRAMS FROM RUNNING AT START UP without using Windows Defender. View this thread
  17. Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with all important patches except KB2804527 (4.2.223.1). Tried to install from Windows update. The process starts. MSE is shutdown and then nothing happens. Gave up after thirty minutes. The update is only 7.8MB and thirty minutes is enough to install Windows 7 much less an update to MSE. Decided to download it and try a local install. Clicked on the More information link which usually takes you to a page where you can download the update. Wound up at: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download which has a download but it is for 4.2.223.0 which is already installed on my system. How do I download 4.2.223.1 so I can install it locally? I have another half a dozen machines that should also be updated so a downloaded package would probably be more efficient anyway than downloading it on each machine. View this thread

  22. Seriously. There is a local pc repair joint that is charging exorbitant rates just for applying Windows updates to your PC. Is that even legal? They surely aren't paying Microsoft a special licensing fee for access to the updates, they're not charging for them as a pass-through entity, and they sure as **** haven't put any of their own work into developing the updates, so how can they charge a fee just for letting Windows download and apply updates. It boggles my mind. On a running system, regardless of why it's brought to me, I apply all updates before attempting any diagnosis. ****, if a customer calls to say they're coming by to pick up I'll boot their system and update before they get here so I know that it's at least as up-to-date as the last day it was in my hands. I could not, in good conscience, charge a customer for this sort of thing. To me, it's about the same as adding a charge to the customer's PC repair bill for oxygen, because I was breathing while I repaired their PC. Here's a link to their page, where they delineate the charge... http://www.gurumypc.com/support/windows-updates View this thread
