I don't have a wireless hotspot as I rarely use the internet outside of my bedroom, which which is half bedroom and half computer room. Since I've graduated from school, I rarely use my laptop except as a sort of e-reader reading at night. I use a long CAT5e patch cable instead. Unfortunately, I damaged the connector last night, and won't be able to get a new RJ-45 plug until after work tomorrow, and I won't be able to actually fix it until I can bring the cable in to work and use their crimper. In the mean time, the connection keeps comming and going every time I breathe with the laptop resting on my chest in bed. Is there any way to stop those balloons that notify me the connection is been disconnected, and then is connected again? Preferably while keeping the icon there so I can look when I'm ready to click on a link for the next chapter? In other words, I want to turn off the "local area connection 2: A network cable is disconnected" and "local area connection is now connected speed: 100Mbps" They keep poping up and are getting annoying. Not to mention blocking the bottom of the browser window. I realize they are there for a reason as there is a very real malfunction, but it's going to be a few more days before I can fix it. BTW, is there any way to rename "Local Area Connection" to "Wifi connection" and "Local Area Connection 2" to "Wired Ethernet Connection"? Easier to remember which is which. View this thread

I have connected a vga & audio lead to a converter imput, & then from the output HMDI lead to the TV HMDI, I tried Display properties & settings and the best I get is when I restart as instructed is the windows XP (black screen with logo) with the loading bar under doing it's thing........this comes on the TV fine but then stops and goes black on both screens, I dont seem to get to the control alt del stage at all.........All help needed out there please......Thanking you, yours sincerely liam k View this thread

Hello, I just installed windows 8 pro on my working computer. I work a lot with virtual machines for special os setups. Recently I used Virtualbox for those machines. But with windows 8 pro VBox says there is not VT-X available ... (mainboard and processor support vt-x and it is enabled) Well it was available before I switched to windows 8 pro. I search the net and found a hint that hyper-v might be the cause. I had hyper-v installed because I am planning to migrate to hyper-v from vbox. I uninstalled hyper-v and vt-x was available again. Question now is why does hyper-v does disable vt-x for other hypervisors or even better how can i prevent this ? View the full article

I installed Windows 8 on a Acer Extensa 5620Z, which ran perfectly well with Windows Vista. My first installation with Win 8 ran fine, but then Win 8 started to update itself and now it keeps stalling the computer, leaving vertical black stripes in the screen. The computer does not run for 10 minutes without stalling. Youtube videos will stall it instantly. When I remove the update, it starts working again. Memory and harddrive are obviously fine. Hello, My XP Professional runs out low disk space that prompts to remove some programs, but how? Some programs just cannot remove no matter how many times I tried such as: F-Secure Client Security; L&H TTS Espariol; Oracle Janitiator 1.3.1.22; Rapport; Roll etc. Are these programs important that I should keep?
